Chapter one: Maple candies
Matthew sighed as the winter air cut through his hoodie. There had been a flash blizzard that day and the poor Canadian only had a thin sweater over his chest. His blond hair whipped around in the wind as he continued forwards, hoping to find a warm shelter to wait for the snowstorm out. It seemed as luck was on his side as a small candy shop came into view 'perfect'. Matthew quickly steered himself inside and sat at a small table.
Hours had passed before the storm showed signs of lightening up. In that time Matthew had ordered a cupcake, two cookies, and a small bag of maple candies which he was currently eating calmly. The chime of a bell indicated another customer entering the shop. Matthew glanced up, curiosity getting the better of him. A light blush tinted his cheeks as the new customer stood in the growing line. He quickly averted his gaze as the man looked around. Minutes later, the man ordered and approached the Canadian. "Excuse me, is this spot taken?" Matthew shook his head, fear closing off his voice. The man sat and smiled "Thanks. I'm Hudson, you?" Matthew willed himself to speak and stuttered out a reply "M-Matthew. Nice to meet you." Hudson nodded "Same to you." Mattew bit into a candy and studied Hudson. His emerald eyes stuck out against the slight pale skin. A silky mop of dark brown hair hung just above his ears, adding more colour to his head. Matthew finished the candy and looked outside. The snow still hadn't let up, sadly. Matthew sighed and turned back to his candy.
"You really like those candies, don't you?" Matthew nodded slightly "I've uh, always been a fan of maple." Hudson chuckled on "Its one of the few sweets I can stand." Matthew smiled and grabbed one of the candies, handing it to Hudson. "Here. There chewy so you shouldn't have to bite too hard." Hudson smiled and tossed the candy into his mouth "Thanks! it's really good!" Matthew nodded in response and ate a candy "No problem." The two smiled and continued to chat while sharing the candies.
Finally, the snow let up enough to walk home. Matthew rose and made his way to the exit, only to be stopped by Hudson. "It's getting pretty late. Would you mind if I walked you home? it can get dangerous." Matthew nodded after a short delay, a light blush tinting his cheeks. The two exited the shop and began on there walk. Matthew inhaled the cold sweet air and smiled "It's so nice out." Hudson nodded and looked up at the stars "Yeah. The sky is nice and clear too."
They soon reached Matthews house and gave their farewells. "Are you sure you'll get home safe?" Hudson nodded "Yeah. I only live a block down. I'll be fine." Matthew nodded "Ok.. be careful. I'll see you around." Hudson nodded and headed off.
Matthew quickly dashed into his house and sprinted for the phone. He dialled and tapped his foot excitedly. "Bonjour?"
"Papa! J'ai de bonnes nouvelles!
"Oh? Dis à mon petit Matthew"
"J'ai rencontré cet homme mignon! il m'a conduit à la maison et je suis sûr que j'ai le béguin!"
"C'est merveilleux! Je dirai à Arthur quand il sera debout!"
"Merci papa! s'il te plaît, ne dis pas à Alfred ... tu sais comment il va ... "
"Je ne veux pas Ne t'inquiète pas"
"Merci!" Matthew hung up and went up to his bed, his mind flooded with a drug named love
