Stormy Day

"Mow…"

"It's okay Mel; this is only a small storm."

"Mew!"

"No need to run."

The crimson hunter sat on the floor, adorable kitten in hand. Like most cats, Mel was afraid of storms. The thunder was much too loud for sensitive kitten ears.

"It's fine. This will all go away soon." Sapphire eyes gazed into scared golden ones.

"Meow…"

"Just relax, okay?" Stroking the ivory-and-onyx fur and holding the kitten gently, the blonde warrior seemed like an altar-ego of the famed angel of death.

"Mew?"

"Don't worry, I'm here for you. I won't let anything bad happen.

A knock came at the door and Mel high-tailed it for an interior closet.

"Who is it?"

"Zero, this is X. Just wanted to talk a bit."

"Sure, come in."

Emerald-eyed X strode into the dim room. Everything would light up with a flash of lightning every few seconds.

"So what brings you here X?"

"You've been acting really different after…"

"Yeah, I know. I think the humans call it 'grief'."

"Still, even from you this is weird."

"Couldn't you tell that she was more than another navigator to me?"

"I guess… Still, you always shut yourself in when there's a storm, why's that?"

"I like being on my own. That's not any news to you I hope."

"No, it's not. It just feels so… unusual…"

"Speak for yourself there."

"I only wanted to make sure everything was fine."

"Of course it is, now stop being such a worry-wart!"

"I'll leave you be then."

"See you later, X."

As soon as the azure hunter left, the ruby hunter searched the closets for the terrified kitten.

"There you are!"

"Mew!"

"I know you're scared, just calm down." The red warrior gently picked up the tiny kitten and continued stroking its four-inch-long fur.

"Purrrr…"

"That's better… That's much better…"

Before long, the soft kitten fell asleep in the hunter's arms. The proud warrior couldn't help but smile and laugh a bit.

"Heh. So adorable just like you. I don't know or care if you're still watching. I'd take just as good of care of this bundle of fur anyway. It's really nice to have someone who you can tell everything to. All your secrets, good and bad. All your funny little ideas and sad moments. The good days and bad days. The best friend anyone could ask for... Thank you."
