I've Been Wondering

"Matt?" Mello asked his roommate as they sat next to each other on the bottom bunk of their room. Matt was playing up a storm on his DS.

"Hm?"

"Can I ask you something?"

"You just did," said Matt, glancing up.

"Shut the hell up." Matt snapped the DS shut after saving the game and looked Mello in the eye.

"You're nice. Really, what did you want to ask me?"

"I don't want to say it anymore."

"C'mon, Mells."

"Don't call me that." Mello scowled.

"I'll call you whatever the hell I want, Mells," taunted Matt. "Really. What's up?"

"Nothing."

"Something." Mello opened his mouth, but then closed it again. Matt continued, "I've never seen you so nervous before. Either you're about to tell me you killed someone or I don't know what."

"You really want to know?"

"Hell yeah."

"Well, I've been wondering…"

"No shit."

"Don't interrupt, bitch. So, I've been wondering. What do you, um, feel about me?"

"You're my best friend, Mello." Mello sighed. Best friend. That's all it is. That's all it will ever be. Matt kept going. "But, um, I've, um, been thinking. And when I start thinking, you know something's messed up. But I've been thinking that maybe you're not just my best friend. I think- no, I know- I like you. You might hate me for this, what with the Church and all not liking gays."

"You- you like me?"

"That's what I just said, smart one," Matt said. Mello whispered to himself in rapid-fire Russian. He finally reverted to English.

"So I'm not just a friend?"

"Yeah. But I'm okay if you don't feel the same way."

"You're a genius, Matt, but you're really stupid sometimes. I told you the smoking and the video games weren't good for you. Of course I like you. I love you. Come here, you damn idiot." Mello wrapped his arms around Matt's neck, pushing his goggles off his face, and kissed him for the very first time. They were clumsy, inexperienced. All they knew was that they needed this, this love. Matt smiled into the kiss and pulled Mello closer. Instinct took over and their kiss grew deeper. Mello had just pushed Matt under him on the bed when the door opened. Linda entered.

"Hey, Matt!" she began. "Can I borrow…." She saw the boy in question pinned under his roommate. And they were kissing. "What the frack?" Mello had heard the door open and looked up. He scrambled off the redhead, muttering curses.

"Um… it's not what it-"

"Looks like? It looks like you were sharing an intimate moment with Matt. It's about time you guys admitted it."

"What the hell?"

"Oh, please. Everyone knows. You look like a girl and Matt never leaves your side. It's obvious. I'm just surprised you're on top."

"Piss off."

"Fine," Linda said, spinning on her heel and exiting. Mello locked the door and turned to look at Matt, who was sitting on the bed and blushing furiously.

"Now," said Mello with a smirk, "where were we?" He got back on the bed on his hands and knees, and then tackled Matt. The redhead was thrown back, his head hitting the pillow. They both laughed. A peck on the lips from Matt to Mello and they were kissing again. No interruptions.
