By his fifth drink he was certain about one thing that no amount of alcohol could take away the pain of no longer having her in his life. The pain seemed to be worse everyday. She was still the first person he though of in the morning and the last person at night. He missed having her in his life, but more than that he missed being able to feel that connection with another human being.

When Lexie sat on the stool next to him he didn't even look up at first. But something caught his attention, maybe it was the pain that was mirrored in his own face.

The same pain of loss and rejection was there. He had heard the rumors that Mark and Lexie were over after he had another fling with Addission while in LA a few weeks ago. They both walked around the hospital like a shell functioning yet not functioning at all.

He passed her his drink, and ordered another shot of Jim Beam. And as she swallowed the fiery liquid she gave him a gentle smile. And through the haze of alcohol, drunken kisses and discarded clothes. They both knew that there was no going back, they were taking a step forward good or bad. They were betraying their hearts with each other, but it was nice to feel that connection again if only for a few hours.
