"Dad?" Annie's delighted voice rang through the speaker.

"And Mom too," Integra laughed. " We've got you on speakerphone."

"Oh, that's great! It means I can share my big news with both of you at once!"

"Oh?" Alucard asked, warily interested. "You're not getting married, are you?"

"Oh, no, of course not," Annie laughed. " But it does have to do with Seth. Dad, I brought home my new baby today!"

Alucard choked on the blood he had been swallowing. Integra glanced at him, and gripped his arm as it started to shake. Let her talk, she mouthed.

"Go on," he choked out.

" Dad, she's beautiful! Seth and I had talked about it for a long time, and we decided that this was what we wanted. Oh, she's so tiny! It's almost like she weighs nothing at all. I'm so happy, it's just too wonderful to describe!"

"Annie, you realize that this'll be a big responsibility," Integra cautioned.

"Oh, I know, Mom, but Seth agreed we'd split the job. And it won't be so bad. Really! And the doctor looked her over and said she was perfectly healthy, and that we shouldn't have any troubles with her. She's so cute! She's such a little angel," Annie gushed.

"Why…didn't you let us know about this before?" Alucard asked between clenched teeth.

"Well…I didn't want to impose on you guys. And I always forgot to mention it when we were on the phone," she explained.

"FOR-" Alucard was about to say, Forgot to mention it!?, but Integra stopped him with a finger to his lips. She sent a warning glance in his direction.

"That was kind of you dear, but didn't you think we would have liked to know about this?"

"Actually, I didn't think you guys would care so much. It was Seth's idea, anyway. I didn't want to bother you guys with it. "

Alucard could barely contain himself. He picked up the receiver, and spoke into it. "Talk to your mother about this. I'm not listening to it any longer. If you want that boyfriend of yours to live, he had better find someplace to hide, and soon." He handed it to Integra, then stalked out of the room, trembling with rage. Integra held it up to her ear.

"You father left, Annie. Now it's just you and me."

"Hey, Mom?"

"Yes, dear."

"What has Dad got against Seth and I getting a little kitten?"

Annie then waited patiently for the next 20 minutes for her mother to recover from helpless laughter.
