Sweets
"I told you we should have just bought a cake from the pastry shop instead," Koko said, looking at the mess Sumire made in the kitchen.
"I know cooking isn't exactly my forte, but I have to do this myself or else Natsume won't appreciate the efforts I put into baking this cake," Sumire said seriously.
"Fine then," Koko said and gave Sumire a hand in setting up the mixer. Little did Sumire know how badly it hurt Koko to help the girl of his dreams bake a cake for another man.
Sumire switched the mixer on without realizing it was on full speed. Next thing they knew, they were both, along with their small little area in the kitchen, covered in chocolate cake batter.
"You should have checked the knob before switching it on," Koko said, obviously not in the mood for anything like chocolate cake batter on his clothes.
"Sorry," Sumire muttered. "Could you please get the paper towels over there by the cake box while I clean up over here?"
Koko rolled his eyes and made his way over to the corner of the room where they'd left their belongings on the floor. He spotted the roll of paper towels behind the box Sumire had planned to put the cake in. He grabbed it and got up so they could clean themselves up, but the small card on the box caught his eye. Curious about what Sumire wrote on the card for Natsume, he reached down once more to quickly read it.
Koko, Happy Valentines Day! I'm sorry I had to ask you to help bake your present, but we both know might suffer from food poisoning if I did it myself. Plus, the time we spent baking this could also have been an early present for both me and you.
-Sumire
Koko smiled at this. He'd acted like such an ass the whole time, from when Sumire dragged him out to the supermarket to buy ingredients up until that moment when the mixer went crazy.
He got up once again and turned back around to face Sumire.
"Thanks," Sumire said and held out a hand to ask for a paper towel. "Can I have one please? I need to get some of this off my face."
Koko put the roll of paper towels down on the counter and grabbed Sumire's hand. WIth a little tug on her arm, he pulled her closer and kissed the batter off the side of her lips before kissing her on the lips.
"You know I'm not a fan of cake, right?" Koko said after pulling away.
"What?" Sumire looked puzzled.
"I'd have preferred chocolates with almonds," he grinned.
Upon realizing what he was talking about, Sumire pushed Koko away and took from her things what looked like a pack of almonds.
"That's what we were baking next," she said, annoyed, and threw the bag at Koko's face before she proceeded to angrily manually mix with a whisk whatever was left of the cake batter.
The End
