John watches her struggle; with pain, with exhaustion. He remembers their conversation when they decided to do this. He didn't take into account what she would go through in the end. If he did, they wouldn't be here in Torchwood's medical clinic. "One more, Rose, one more." He said as she squeezed his hand and told him colourfully that his sex life was over.
The doctor looked up from his position and encouraged one more push. Anyone but Doctor Owen Harper would have gotten a string of profanity.
Looking at his son and his wife made it all worth it.
