A/N - I've decided to attempt to write a marauders era fanfic. It will focus on different characters and will act as a series of one-shots. I hope you like it, and reviews would be much appreciated.

Severus Snape: The First Day

"Slytherin!" bellowed the sorting hat as it was lightly placed on Severus Snape's head. He smiled, he'd already known that he was going into Slytherin, it was impossible for him not to. He heard cheers rising from the table where all the Slytherin's were sat. Some stood and clapped others just glared at the other houses. Severus made his way to the table and sat down next to a boy with blond (almost white hair).

"Hi, I'm Severus." He pushed his hand out expecting the other boy to take it.

"Lucius." The boy said, he simply stared at the hand before turning his back to Severus and talking to someone else. Severus could have sworn he heard them laughing. Embarrassment washed over him and he began to pick at the food in front of him. He looked over at the Gryffindor table and saw his friend Lily Evans. She was smiling and chatting to the others on her table. Already popular, all the young girls were talking to her and smiling. They seemed happy with their house. Severus was happy with his house, just not with the people. Severus felt the bench lower slightly as someone else sat down. Snape looked up and saw a pretty girl with wild hair and deep brown eyes sitting next to him. He heard others around him giggling and noticed that she'd moved to sit next to him.

"Hello, I'm Bellatrix Black. What's your name?" The girl asked. She pushed her hands out towards him. Severus took her hand in his and shook it vigorously.

"Severus, it's nice to meet you." Bellatrix smiled, and then took a piece of chicken off his plate. Bellatrix dug her teeth into the meat, before throwing the rest of the food back onto his plate. She began to talk with her mouth open, pieces of chicken spitting onto Severus' face.

"Do you mind?" Severus said, as he wiped the meat off his face.

"No I don't, because I already don't like you; and I'm pretty sure nobody else does. Good Luck outsider." With this Bellatrix got up from the bench and returned to her seat opposite a girl who looked similar to her. The other girl was sending nervous glances towards Lucius, whose back was still facing Severus.

Severus shoved some of the food into his mouth, hoping that nobody noticed the small tear that was sliding down his pale face. Tomorrow would be better.
