"Dammit." Sousuke cursed.

Up until now it had been a normal night together while they were staying at his Samezuka dorm room. His room mate and best friend Rin was visiting Haruka again, so he and Makoto had some time alone. Sousuke still didn't get along well with Nanase and neither of them approved of the others relationship. But in the end both agreed to tolerate each other, mostly for the sake of their partners. Rin wouldn't be able to stay away from Nanase anyway.

And to be honest, Sousuke was glad as well.

Makoto was a gentle person, who tried his best not to hurt anyone, had those strong back muscles, beautiful green eyes and the most loveable smile.

But right now none of this was visible for him. For whatever reason the light suddenly had died out, interrupting their kiss and leaving them in the dark. In fact the term "pitch-black" wouldn't be exaggerated. Since it was new moon and their window was on the exact opposite side to the streets there was no light coming from outside at all.

As soon as the lights had gone out Makoto's muscles had tensed in his arms.

"Does that happen often?", he mumbled.

"Not at all. Probably just a broken fuse. I guess it will be fixed soon." In contrast to Makoto Sousuke was incredibly calm.

Makoto gave an uneasy laugh. "Ah, I hope so."

"Are you afraid?", Sousuke asked concerned. His boyfriend always had been a person who got nervous easily, but he never thought that he might be afraid of the dark.

"N-" Mako stopped himself. He wanted to make sure that Sousuke didn't worry even more, but he knew that lying to him wouldn't have any use.

"Yes, I am", he admitted quietly and slightly ashamed.

Sousuke's left hand tightened the grip around Mako while the other one began to search something in the dark.

"What are you doing?"

"Searching for my phone.", Sousuke said briefly.

Knowing that it was nearby he found it only moments later. He fidgeted with it for a while, trying to turn it on with his one free hand. Finally the small screen covered the room in a dim light. It was not enough to see much but still made it a bit brighter.

"Better?"

Makoto nodded at him, a gesture Sousuke was finally able to see.

"Somewhat. At least there is no thunderstorm." He gave a small smile that was more relaxed than before.

"Don't tell me you're afraid of those, too."

"No. Not directly anyway. But it probably would've made the situation worse."

"I see. Is there anything else you're afraid of?"

"Well I-" Mako hesitated. "I'm afraid of the ocean."

Sousuke was surprised at this answer. He wouldn't have expected that from a great swimmer like him, but when Makoto explained his reasons he started to understand. He listened carefully when he told him of the nice old man, the goldfish, the horrible typhoon and the day he and Rei almost drowned.

"The ocean sure can be a dangerous place", Sousuke said resting his cheek on Makoto's hair and hugging him close. They sat for a while in silence with Sousuke comforting his boyfriend.

"Is there anything you are afraid of?", Mako curiously asked after some time.

He thought for a while until he answered.

"Small spaces make me uncomfortable. Does that count?"

Makoto laughed and pulled him into a kiss. "I guess so."
