No matter how many times she denied it, how many times she tried to forget about everything, her thoughts always drifted back to him. Out of all her options, why did it have to be him?

She knew this kind of thing was frowned upon by some people, but it wasn't uncommon, especially in pureblood families. Some families even encouraged this kind of behaviour but her family had stopped being a traditional pureblood family long before she was born. But she wasn't doing this was sake of blood or duty. This was something deeper, something that had snuck up on her over the years.

The signs had been there since she was younger - her sudden desire to always want to sit next to him at the dinner table, for him to spend time with her reading when she had never picked up a book on her own in her life - but she just thought it was genuine care, nothing deep.

Her feelings came forth the night he left. She had been in her room when she heard him shouting in the kitchen, his voice just a bit louder than her mother's tears and her father's quiet countenance. When his feet stomped up the stairs and past her bedroom door, her heart leapt in her chest, crashing painfully against her ribcage. Something was happening, something big and her time (she didn't even know was limited) was running out.

She stole out of her room, keeping her footsteps light as she padded up the stairs to Percy's before pushing the door open.

"I have nothing more to say to you," Percy shouted, angrier than she had ever see him. The once calm, coiffed and at most annoyed young man was now completely livid. His face was red as he moved about the room, throwing his clothes haphazardly into a trunk on his bed. He looked towards her in the doorway, and his face relaxed though only slightly. "Oh, it's you."

"What's going on?" she asked, stepping into the room and pushing the door closed behind her.

"I'm leaving," he said, moving about the room once more.

"Leaving?" she asked. "What are you talking about? Where will you go?"

"I don't know," Percy said, "But I can't stay here anymore, under this roof with their rules and their wrong thinking."

Ginny bit her lip, not wanting to be riled up by her older brother but also wanting to defend their parents. "They care about you, Percy. We all do."

"They want to put all their faith into a boy who wants to plunge the world into fear and darkness again. The Ministry knows the truth, the Ministry will handle it,-"

"The Ministry is not your family, Percy," Ginny shouted, interrupting her brother's rant. Her chest heaved as she continued, "The Ministry will not care for you like we do, the Ministry will not love you like we do."

"The Ministry will not hold me back like they do," Percy said bitterly. "My name is a joke in all circles. If I can get out of here, I can prove myself and make my own path."

"You don't need to prove yourself," Ginny said. She walked forward and placed her hand on his arm. "You're already loved here, already treasured here. Mum loves you, Dad loves you, Bill, Charlie, Ron, even the twins love you."

Their eyes locked and Ginny's heart knocked against her ribcage once more, wanting to be released, wanting to pour her love into her brother. Her feelings were screaming to be heard, to be acted upon. It no longer mattered if it was wrong or right to feel these things about a relative she had to let him know. She added, "I love you, Percy, more than you'll ever know."

She tipped on her toes to place her lips on his, her heart racing but no longer painful. He stiffened as she made contact but he didn't pull away, he didn't push her away. She felt his shoulders relax a bit, his anger subside. He spoke big but he was vulnerable and scared of going on his own. He needed this love and affection even if he didn't want to admit to himself.

Movement up the stairs to the level above, their mother's quiet sniffling, broke them apart. Percy looked towards her face, her lips and then to her hand still on his arm before shrugging her off. He cleared his throat and pulled his trunk to the ground. "Goodbye, Ginny," he said as he pulled open his door and left.
