Author's Note: Okay so this is a change of pace then my recent stories. I wanted to write about Lab Rats but with more of a modern kinda love story, so I combined Lab Rats with the movie, Balto. This is a AU story, so without further ado here's the first chapter of Runnin'.

The story of my life is not a story most would want to hear. So I will tell the story of dog that changed my life. I'm sure you know the story of how my home town, Nome Alaska went into a plague. All of the human children caught this deadly disease, diphtheria. If you heard that my father came back with the medicine, then that was wrong. A half breed wof-dog named Balto came back with the diphtheria antitoxin. My father was the no good glory hound that wanted spotlight for himself. But the story I'm about to tell you takes place two summers after Balto's heroic deed. I was two years old when they came. I remember like it was yesterday.

It was a few weeks into summer and the same routines went on without a hitch. Dogs all over Nome trained for the upcoming races and sled jobs in the winter. Sherise sat on a hill top watching her fellow peers run along the beach. A soft summer breeze blew up, tossing her black and white fur. Some says that she looks like her father but they couldn't be more wrong. Yes she has black fur and her second coat his white but her legs and paws are black and the white strip on her head is very thin. Besides that, she has brown eyes and her body is slender and athletic built. But as she has some noticeable traits from her father, she is nothing like him. For one thing, wolves are good in her book and she doesn't care for the attention. Which daddy dearest looks down on.

"Sherise!"

The young husky tore her eyes away from the dogs below to the German shepherd-husky. He was mostly black but he had brown on his legs and chest, plus some on his neck and stomach.

"Leo..."

The German shepherd-husky glared at his friend. "If your father knew..." he shook his head. "He'll skin us both!"

Sherise rolled her brown eyes before looking at a dark red husky run down the beach with two other dogs in tow. "What wouldn't I give to be recognIzed...just once."

Leo frowned, he knew it was hard for his friend to live in the consent shadow of her father who once was a famous race dog. Who also in his young mind, is a complete asshole. He moved his brown eyes towards the group of dogs on the beach. He knew the three dogs personally. After all his mother is friends with their mother. He knows that their youngest sister was feeling different and ran away to in the end lead a wolf pack.

"Do you want to meet them?"

Sherise sighed before standing from her her sitting position and turned to head back to town. "As much as I want to...I should be getting back home."

Leo pinned his black ears before following his friend. She always had it rough with her father, he just hoped that would all change.
