Chapter-1

"Mudblood".

One mistake.

One regret.

The love of his life lost.

And nothing he could do to make it up to her.

Draco Malfoy wiped a tear off his cheek at that thought. He really loved this girl. If only he could change that one thing. He just really wanted her. He'd tried to replace her numerous times: Millicent Bulstrode, Pansy Parkinson- but they were all only flirts. They were only replacements. They weren't Hermione, none of them even came close to her.

So he came to a conclusion. He was going to go up to her and apologize. No matter what happened, he was going to do his best to revert his words.

-the next day-

Hermione had straightened her hair today. She looked gorgeous. It kinda distracted Draco from the point, but he had sent his super-glued-body-parts Crabbe and Goyle off to lunch without him. His brain said no, but his heart said yes.

"Hermione wait" he said. He regretted it immediately. But walking away would make it even more awkward. So her just strode slowly towards her.

"Yes, Malfoy?" she asked.

His tongue decided to flip in unintended directions. "I-I J-zu-ul-zt wan-t-ted do-o sayaim s-s-sory" he said.

"For what?"

"Icalledyouamudblood. IwasliketwelveI'mreallysorry" it all rushed out of his mouth.

"Okay but why are you apologizing now?"

"I think I'm in love with you" He spoke properly. He applauded himself in his head for that. But now he was scared of the response. He had butterflies in his stomach really getting all over the place. She mildly openned her mouth, and he braced himself for her reply.

"Well, Draco- look, I forgive you and all, but I don't see you like that. I've forgiven that, but not forgotten that. When I look at you, that memory strikes. I don't think I can deal with that. I was twelve too, and then, it really hurt. I still can't think of you as a different person. I was twelve, so the memory stuck. In my subconscious mind, you're still the obnoxious kid who swore at me. I'm sorry Draco, I've been as honest with you as I possibly can. I hope I didn't hurt you" she said. Well of course it broke his heart, but he wasn't going to stop there.

"I think I can change that" he said. It was as quick as reflex action.

"It has happened, Draco. There's nothing you can do to change that. This is just how I look at you".

"Please give me one chance. Once date, one night, just about three hours of your time. We'll go out to a nice restaurant. Saturday night, we'll go to this new place that opened last month, 31st Main, the one opposite to the Hog's Head. I'll pay. We can go there together. All you have to do is exist. Please, give me one chance, Hermione. If you don't change your mind about me even after that one date, I won't ever be behind you again. One chance, Hermione. Please" he pleaded.

How was she supposed to say no? He was literally begging her. And not for much: just three hours of a weekend night. She planned on spending that on Hogsmeade just loitering around the place with Harry and Ron anyway. She guessed one date wouldn't be much.

"Okay" she said. "We can go to that restaurant you said, together. Okay" she nodded. "It's a date." She smiled.

Draco was mentally jumping up and down in happiness. He would do that just there, but he had to prove to Hermione that he was now a classier and less obnoxious guy. But he did smile and say "Great. I'll see you at the Astronomy Tower at 7:00 on Saturday?"

"Okay" Hermione said. They parted ways and awaited the big day, which was four days away.
