She had that look in her eye. It was one he had only seen in her eyes. It wasn't pity or fear. It wasn't hate or malice... He remembered the only other eyes that had given him that look...

His mother smiled down at him and kissed his forehead. She didn't say anything, just looked at him with so much feeling...

The realisation came as a blow. Could she really feel all this for him? He raised a hand to her cheek as she stared right back into his amber eyes. Her gaze didn't waver. He found himself drowning in the blue depths of her eyes as they simply stared at one another, existing in the impossible moment...

Katara raised a tentative hand to his scar. She watched for his reaction as her fingers came into contact with the burned skin. She had expected him to turn away, maybe stop looking at her like that; like she was... special to him. Instead, he leaned into her hand and let her softly caress it.

Raising herself onto her toes, she gently kissed his scar. Zuko shut his eyes trying to fight the feelings welling up in him. It had been a mistake to let her touch his scar. Now he was feeling... What was he feeling?

Her lips left his face and he felt the cold replace it. Her soft lips weren't so far away. They were right there and breathing warm air onto his face. Before she could get the chance to push him away, as she no doubt would, he wanted to find out what she tasted like.

Katara gasped as Zuko drew her to him and kissed her. She hadn't expected it, but now that she felt it, she couldn't stop, didn't care for the consequences.

He was gentle and careful at first, as if he expected her to run away, but with a smile, she pulled him closer and deepened the kiss. Katara had never felt such raw emotion, and so strong, for anyone, not even Aang...

Pausing for breath, she looked deep into his amber eyes and felt their fires warm her deep within. She ran a had through his growing hair and smiled at him. He looked unbelieving at first, then he smiled back and simply hugged her. She hugged him back shutting her eyes against everything else. She heard the rapid thump of his heart against her cheek and held on tighter.

It felt more than right. It felt perfect.
