I own nothing.
"Let me give you this shot before you join him." Steve intoned. He kept his voice tough, but inside he felt for the hurting man. Loosing someone in battle was difficult, having to relive it was worse.
He glanced down at Danny, comforted to see a slight rise of his chest, but he prayed that he would remain still. At least until he could inject the sedative. He tried not to focus on the blood on him and the floor.
"No!" Austen was yelling now. He rocked back on his heels.
McGarrett pulled him to his feet. He brought the needle to the marine's arm. Then it happened. A groan of pain brought the men's attention to the floor, just in time to see Danny stir and open his eyes.
Austen's eyes snapped from Danny to McGarrett. Rage suddenly flamed into his eyes. "You're trying to trick me!" he roared. "You're a spy!"
The vicious shove that McGarrett received sent him stumbling over the upturned gurney. He landed heavily, the syringe disappearing from his hand. He scrambled to regain his footing.
Austen lunged for the guns and managed to get the revolver.
McGarrett untangled his legs , standing in time to see him attempt to pick up Danny and move him away. Steve launched himself across the bed and tackled the man, knocking him off Danno. He could her the men in the hall running around and shouting.
Austen heard it too, struggling harder under the cop.
"Stand down!" McGarrett managed to call out before a fist split his lip. He nearly fell over, but struggled to regain the upper hand. He threw a few punches, but the other man seemed to have maniacal strength.
Austen tossed McGarrett off and got to his feet, taking his victim with him.
Danny had little fight left in him. He moaned weakly as he was man-handled. The movement aggravated the wound causing it to bleed more freely.
"Calm down, Corporal." McGarrett spoke.
Austen kept the gun on Steve as he slowly moved backwards, dragging Danny with him. "Stay back!"
How am I going to get out of this one? He didn't want to have to shoot him, that is if he can get to a gun. He saw Kono poke his head out of the room that he had been in. He pointed to himself then to Austin.
Austen didn't see him and continued backing towards him. The gun trembled in the marine's hand.
Steve realized Kono's plan and worked to keep the man distracted. He held his hands up in a non threatening way. "Calm down and let the Sargent go."
Austen was sweating profusely and his mental stability continued to slip. As he came abreast to the doorway, Kono grabbed the man and knocked him to the floor. He fell on top of him to control the man. Chin launched himself forward and caught Danny before his head could hit the floor.
The gun went off as they fell, causing McGarrett to dive. He grabbed the syringe and scuttled over to the struggling men. He plunged it into Austin's arm and injected the sedative. Seconds later he was unconscious.
Steve hurriedly moved to his officer and felt for a pulse. He was relived to find one. He looked over at an officer. "Get a doctor in here, now!"
The officer hurried off to obey as Steve pressed his hand over the oozing wound. "You'll be OK, Danno."
Danny managed a weary glance at his boss before he slipped back into oblivion.
As the doctors swooped in, McGarrett reluctantly moved back to let them work. After a few tense moments, he asked. "How is he?"
"He should make it." the young doctor replied.
Steve looked at Chin and Kono as they all breathed a sigh of relief. The nightmare was over.
