Author's note: Happy birthday, Kristen! This story is rather short, and I'm sorry, but I hope you will enjoy it! I know that you commented that you wanted to write a Alice/David story, so I wrote one for you! Have an awesome day!
Alice sighed.
Algebra 1 was probably the worse class she had ever taken, and certainly the most complicated. As she finished the last homework problem, she shut her textbook with a loud thunk as to alert all the world that she was done with math for tonight.
It was only five o' clock, but Roz had made Alice do her homework early tonight because David was coming over while his parents went out. Alice had known the boy all of his life, and she had always liked him. There was something about him, something that made him easy to talk to and easy to trust.
It was strange, because sometimes Alice talked to him about things she didn't even expect him to understand, like high school drama or her English teacher, and he still listened and did his best to comprehend it.
Once she had told him, "If you weren't eight years old, you'd make a great boyfriend." He had blushed and not said anything.
Alice was pulled out of her thoughts when she heard her mother yell, "Alice!" from the living room.
She got up from her spot on the floor, went to the living room, and answered, "Yes Mom?"
"Have you finished your homework?"
"Yeah. Why?"
"Daphne just called me. She's bringing David by a little earlier than we had planned on."
"Alright."
Of course, Alice didn't mind at all.
When David did arrive, he and Alice went to her room. Alice sat on her bed and David joined her.
"Did you have homework tonight?" she asked him.
He shook his head.
"Lucky you!" she exclaimed. "I had a bunch of algebra. I finished it though."
He nodded.
"Speaking of things that are finished, I broke up with Darren."
David gasped. "Really?"
"Yeah."
"Why?"
"Because he spends too much time with that new girl, Katherine, way more time than he does with me. I figure, hey, if you wanna go around eating lunch with some girl that isn't your girlfriend, why do you need me? So I dumped him. But, of course, this all had to happen right before the dance, so now I'll have to worry about getting a date."
David nodded. "Has anyone asked you yet?"
"Well…yeah!" Alice smiled and took her iPhone out of her pocket. "I got a text from this guy Zak last night, actually. Here, read it."
"Hey, go to the dance with me," David read. "Isn't that kind of bossy of him?"
"He was just joking, but it turns out he was serious about the dance thing. I don't know if I wanna go with him yet, though."
"Is he nice?"
"Yeah, but he's super shy. I guess he's kinda cute and…we're friends."
"Then why are you not sure you want to go with him?"
"I don't know, what if it's awkward?"
"You should go with him!" David said, smiling.
Alice thought it was strange that he was so forward with her, because he usually kept his opinions to himself. "He must really be sure about this," she thought.
"Well…" she paused for a moment. "Okay! I will, then."
It was then that she realized something.
Zak was a lot like David.
He was shy, good to talk to, smart, and even cute.
And hadn't she told David he might make a great boyfriend?
"Thank you David," she said to him. "I'm gonna text him right now!"
David smiled.
