Lucy was sitting in her spot when Nellie came up to her.
"Rough day huh," Nellie asked
Lucy smiled.
"It was a long day," she admitted, "but how can you tell"
"Cause yer sitting in your spot," Nellie answer.
Lucy nodded.
"Oh this isn't the rough times spot," she laughed, "it's my favorite place. It holds so much meaning for me. I love this spot."
"Really… how so?"
"Well so many wonderful things happened her," Lucy said, "see that water stain right there," she pointed, "that was where I went into labor with Johanna"
Nellie laughed. Only Lucy would see labor as a wonderful thing.
"This is also the spot where Benjamin proposed"
"Is it?"
Lucy nodded.
"Every time he has a surprise for me, he always sends me to this spot," she laughed. She got out a box and opened it. "Right here," she said, "is where we keep our memory book" She opened it up and showed it to Nellie.
On the first page was a red ribbon. There was a date on the ribbon. "The day we met," she explained. She turned the page and page after page explained what the dates meant.
With a grin she turned to the last page. It was not a ribbon but a handmade and carved rose. "That's beautiful," Nellie exclaimed. Lucy nodded. Then she told Nellie the story.
"It was about 3 months ago. I was six months pregnant with Johanna and I had been having a particularly bad day. We had words, mainly because my hormones were out of control. That night he came to me and handed me a box
"Open the box, he said. I did. In it was this rose. He told me that no matter what he loved me until this rose fell apart. And it would never fall apart because he made it with love"
