Author's Note: This is a companion piece in Jacob's POV to my one-shot from Bella's POV, "Snow Falling on Cedars".It's shorter than that one, but hopefully still enjoyable:-) And I hope you like the pun in the title!!

Disclaimer: I don't own Twilight.

Black Frost

Jacob hated winter. Not because he couldn't handle the cold or because he would get chilblains or anything. Because it reminded him of her. She had always been cold and he had been her 'space heater'. Winter reminded him of frosty nights when she would creep closer, wrapping herself around him, murmuring Jacob you're so warm. Tucking her little head beneath his chin, pushing closer, trying to seep into his skin. It reminded him of one particular night when she lay closer to him than ever before, wrapped up in him, warming herself against him like a fire, her fire. He remembered how cold she was then and the fierce joy he felt as his warmth crept into her, through her skin to the depths of her being. He felt the joy of possession, of victory, because this was something that the Bloodsucker couldn't do for her. At that moment, Bella was his and his only and the Bloodsucker knew it. He had held her closer, tighter, silently begging her to take all his warmth, to absorb all his heat and become one with him. And she had, in a sense. But that was then. Then, he had had the ability to impart heat to the core of her body, to light a fire in her veins. Then, winter had been a joy, a blessing, an excuse to hold her close without her pulling away. Now, winter only reminded him that the girl he knew was gone and in her place was a cold thing whom he could never keep warm again.
