Dean didn't expect that the touristy thing in New York would be fun but it had been. True, he and Sammy had been bugging Dad for two days just to get there but for Dean it was more the bright lights of New York rather than the Statue of Liberty. The funny part of it was that even Dad had seemed to enjoy it. It was if the constant day-to-day vigilance Dad lived in was suspended just a bit. As if worrying about muggers was a relief compared to what he worried about routinely. Dean had to admit it was true. Even at fifteen he could handle a mugger as easily as his father. Well, almost as easily.

Dad had steadfastly refused to visit the stadium though.

"Damn Yankees," he'd said and spat on the ground, much like a Catholic would cross themselves when faced with the mention of a demon. Dean and Sammy had laughed then and even the scowl on Dad's face had softened just a bit.

"You know, it's a damn shame when baseball is reduced to who has the deepest pockets," Dad had clarified.

Dean and Sammy had readily agreed. Dad's views on the Yankees were legendary and neither one wanted to listen to him grumble about their ability to ruin baseball for the rest of the day.

Dad had managed to keep a lid on it, showing a restraint that shocked both boys. Sammy had quietly remarked that he'd never seen so many Yankee caps and it was a miracle that Dad hadn't spent the day knocking them off of unsuspecting heads.

They'd hit just about everything else though and when they stumbled to the hotel at 11pm both Dad and Sam had crashed. Dean was still wired though. He was in New York, the city that never slept and Dad and Sam were slumbering like babes.

Dean glanced over at his Dad and Sammy. It was dicey, sneaking out, Dean knew it but he didn't care. The chance of him making it back to this city were slim to none and what good was it to be here and be sleeping!

Dean didn't think twice about it. He slipped out of the hotel and into the bustle of the city.

New York was waiting for Dean Winchester.
