Obsession

Love is a type of obsession. And an obsession is akin to love. Misa Amane called what she felt for Light Yagami love.

Love was the acceptable term, though it would be more correct to call it an obsession. Light was Misa's reason to live, not because she loved him but because she couldn't live without the object of her fixation. She convinced herself it was love that made her feel utter devotion towards him, but she felt no real affection. Just a need to worship, to follow, to simply be near the man who was Kira.

It was fitting, perhaps. Light exploited Misa's devotion to use her as a servant, a pawn. Misa did all she did to stay with Kira, Light did all he did to keep the vision that he loved alive. Love was the illusion they both maintained while using each other for their own ends.

Goddess of the New World was never an option. When Misa was no longer needed, she was pushed aside, and was filled with the sorrow born not of being jilted by a lover, but the sorrow of not being able to serve Light any more.

And in the end, as Misa Amane stood on the edge of the building and decided to follow her god to the grave, she thought of lost love, even though she knew that love had never been.

AN: I should be sued for writing these short angsty pieces and making them their own story. They don't really deserve it -_-

And, although I'm sure this has been done and overdone, I'm trying to assign each Death Note character one of the seven deadly sins. Any ideas would be appreciated.
