He hates cases like this. And it's not only because the victim is a child. It's because the person committing the crimes has given them a time limit based on an MO from cases past.
The squad hasn't slept since the first victim escaped her captor. And for the second time around, there is a second victim. The first time, there were more. And the squad is determined not to let it happen again.
A voice coming from across the room breaks into his thoughts: one of his colleagues has just gotten off the phone and announced that he's been informed they've been working for thirty-six hours now.
Great, he thinks. Just what we need. Someone to tell us what we already know: that we're running out of time. Seventy-two minus thirty-six is thirty-six. They've got about a day and a half before this second victim won't be as lucky as the first.
All of them are tired and at each other's throats. All of them want nothing more than to be able to go home and sleep off this latest horror, but this is one of those times when they can't and he knows it.
After all, they've got another chance to save an innocent lifeā¦even if they only have mere hours to do so.
