Is it catching on yet? Because I like it. If I've got their characters wrong, virtually slap me and tell me how to fix it. ^^
i.
Izuru Kira hated lies.
He had been kept in the dark for far too long, he had been betrayed too deeply.
He needed someone to tell him the truth.
ii.
Tatsuki Ariwara hated lies.
She was goddamn tired of being kept out of the secret, tired of being left behind.
She needed someone to let her in on the truth.
iii.
They ran into each other by chance. Crashing into one another and falling to the ground. She had snapped up, ready to tear some idiot's arm off and stopped when she realized it was a shinigami.
A very sad looking shinigami.
"Uh, hi?"
His head snapped up and he met her eyes. Then he stood. "Sorry for running into you." He muttered and left.
She stood there wondering what had caused him to be so upset.
Then she scowled. Why did she always get involved when people were hurt? Couldn't she be empathetic in another way?
iv.
They met again in Soul Society. He had been surprised, she had been a little annoyed.
He had kept that stupid sad face on.
So, she decided to punch it out of him.
v.
It took months for them to trust each other.
Her to trust a shinigami. It wasn't that she didn't like them, she had just been lied to too many times by them.
Him to trust another person. It wasn't that he didn't like them, he had just been hurt too badly by one.
vi.
"See that star?" He blinked and looked over at the dark-haired tomboy. "Do you?"
He focused on the direction her finger was pointing at. "Yes."
"Well, that's the star Orihime told me was called Chiro. We were little kids. We started to name all the stars we could after that. Want to try it?"
And they laid for hours until he finally found himself laughing with her, pointing out stars and playing a game like they were children.
There were no lies here.
vii.
She was the first person he came to when Soul Society had been put under attack.
She forced him to calm down but found herself utterly grateful to the shinigami. "Tell me a story, you might calm down."
He told her about his childhood and his friends and then told her about Gin and the betrayal and how he had attached Momo (whom she now knew was a very close friend) and thought of himself as a monster.
She placed a reassuring hand on his shoulder and said, "If you have problems, go ahead and tell me."
There were no secrets here.
viii.
It became habit. Lying and naming the stars and then later talking about their days. Sometimes one of them would spend the night at the other's, normally resulting in a small argument over the couch because neither wanted to steal the bed.
Izuru loved the simplicity of their relationship. How nothing was kept hidden.
So did Tatsuki.
ix.
Tatsuki liked taking the burdens from others. It was what she did best. It was what she wanted to do.
Izuru needed her. Needed her more than Ichigo or Orihime and, because of this, she could always stay with him. She could no longer age, for that's what happened when one died, and she really would be able to help him now.
Besides, all it took was a punch and he'd snap out of depression.
x.
They both hated lies.
They both had been kept in the dark in the past, forced to remain uncertain.
Now they had finally found someone to tell them the truth.
