Colby and his wife Hallie, 6 months pregnant, were in the nursery putting together the crib when they heard their five year old son Robbie.
"Daddy, Mommy," Robbie yelled as he went up the stairs two at time and into the nursery.
Colby felt his body tense hearing his son yell. Seeing his son was fine, Colby relaxed. "Robbie-James Colby what did I tell you about yelling like that?"
Robbie stopped in his tracks by the door when Colby called him by his whole name.
"Sorry," he mumbled, swallowing hard.
"It's alright squirt but in 3 months you can't be yelling like that? Understand?"
Robbie nodded.
"RC, what got you all excited?" asked Hallie.
Robbie showed them the envelope. "It's here."
Colby managed to take the letter from his jumping son's hands and opened it, skimming through before reading it out loud.
Dear Mr. and Mrs. Granger,
I would like to inform you that your son Robbie-James has been selected to represent California in the tee-ball on the South Lawn All-Star Game at the White House July 16. After the game there will be a picnic on the South Lawn for the players and their family. President Bush will also present each player with an autographed baseball.
Robbie's jaw dropped. He couldn't believe that they picked him.
Colby looked from the letter to his son, the proudest smile on his face. He dropped to his knees to be eye level with Robbie. "We're going to Washington DC in two weeks."
"Daddy can I call Uncle Don?"
Colby nodded, giving Robbie his cell phone.
"Eppes." Don answered.
"Uncle Don, guess what?"
"What?"
"I'm going to Washington DC to play tee-ball on the All-star team."
"That's great buddy."
That whole night Robbie kept singing "We're going to Washington" over and over again.
