A gentle breeze blew, scattering fallen leaves on the hill. Hermione sat with knees to her chest as they swirled around her.

This was her haven, her place to be when she wanted to be on her own. The grassy green hills stood alone, onlooking trees and a lake. It was serene, hidden, it had it's own majestic beauty. The moon stood luminous in the sky. The lake was like glass.

Hermione went to stand by the water, disagreeing with the image it showed back. She disrupted it by splashing it gently, watching the ripples slowly disappear. She wanted to be different, a different person. She wanted to stand out more and she wanted to have more confidence in herself. When he was around she lost everything, but mainly her mind. He had a smell that suffocated her, it consumed her completely. Only moments before he had been there himself.

He stood, resting on the tree for support. His blonde hair a contrast to the black trunk. The moon shone on his face, highlighting features that normally wouldn't be seen, like the curious sparkle in his eyes.

He gazed up at Hermione, contemplating whether or not to speak.

"Do." he paused, "do you ever wonder what will happen to us?"

She tried to casually glance up at him, "I... don't know."

He took a step forward, almost closing the gap between them. Hermione held her breath. His proximity was killing her; she could feel his warm breath on her neck. She lightly closed her eyes, savouring the moment.

"What will happen one day when we don't know each other?" he continued, "when we've gone our separate ways. for good?"

She knew what he meant by separate ways. He didn't just mean career paths, but what side they were on.

"I honestly don't know"

She was finding it hard to breath. She wanted him so bad; she was so close that if she leaned forward she could kiss him.

He grasped her hand in a desperate plea for her to understand.

Her heart skipped a beat.

She stared at the ground. She had dreamt about this day for so long. She knew they were different, that they could never properly be together, but she saw past this. She felt different around him.

She slowly looked up at him, his smell surrounding them. She felt dizzy. His hand seemed to be burning a hole in her hand, where it still lay. His breath mingled around her face. The proximity was too much. She turned away. His hand let go.

She looked around, trying to find something to focus on. Taking a step back she half expected to feel hands on her waist, ushering her back. But she didn't.

She turned back around. He was slowly walking away.

Why did she have to do this to herself? Every time he got close she freaked out and ended up pushing his away. She watched his retreating figure hopelessly. She had the urge to call his name out, to run up and tell him what she really felt, but she didn't.

That's where she was now.

She stared back at the lake, finally noticing how lonely it looked and how lonely she felt.

'Oh well,' she told herself. 'I'll just wait it out. I am bound to get over him eventually, when he starts going out with some other girl. He's bound to,' she continued, 'I can't help it. Then I can just live forever lonely.'

Forever. It just hit her.

She couldn't go forever with out him! She just couldn't.

Her gaze lifted to the hill, where she had seen him last. He had left minutes before hand, there was still time. She picked herself up and began jogging in his direction, now filled with hope and aspiration.
