Darkness. An enveloping warmth. An unimaginable pressure on my chest and my head felt fuzzy. I had wanted to have a normal day, a nice spring vacation from the stress of a full-time job. It was the beginning of my week off, I had just arrived in Japan, the place I've always wanted to visit. I was hoping to have a nice break, a fun time. Instead I get the worst luck. What happens the day after I arrive? A magnitude 9 earthquake and a massive tsunami. The last thing I remember was feeling the earthquake and seeing light fixtures and ceiling fans falling from above. I remember a light falling on me, and then darkness.
A prick of white light. I could see it in the distance. I don't want to go towards it, I don't want to die. I know I don't want to die, but the light, it got bigger, closer. I had no choice. The light was going to come even if I didn't want it to. I became blinded by the light and my eyes closed. I didn't realize I had the ability to open my eyes. The next thing I knew, I felt the temperature change. It was cold and then warm again. I felt something soft being wrapped around me and then a set of arms. I heard a beeping sound and I could smell something strange and slightly unpleasant. I knew I had to open my eyes, to see where I am.
I was able to open my eyes just slightly, and then completely all at once. The first thing I saw was pure white walls and then my line of sight was green. A bright Shrek Green.
