essence

You will forget her as soon as you see her.

The girl has leaf green eyes and flowing chestnut hair, pretty but not memorable. Her name is Leaf; you wouldn't remember because it's just an ordinary name. But she is far from an ordinary girl.

She hails from Pallet Town, best friend of the champion with black hair and red eyes like fire.

.

She is Red's equal.

You never see her without her Blastoise by her side, a Pokémon who boasts powerful muscles and a mighty shell. She can tear down every single one of your Pokémon with ease—after all, legends are always undefeatable. She embarked on a journey at age ten, but was already set on reaching the top.

But somehow her name got lost along the way, and nobody remembers her and they only know Red.

She did what Red has done, she destroyed Team Rocket right alongside him and swept through the Elite Four, and they entered the champion's room hand in hand, eyes reflecting power and victory.

Only Red is glorified for his achievements, and only he knows the girl who is his best friend, his partner who achieved greatness next to him. They were the best in the world, together, and only he knows it.

Everyone else has never heard of her, only seen Red with a girl by his side wherever he goes. She's always floating around like summer leaves in the breeze, and when you blink, you'll miss her. She's not special-looking, forgotten as soon as she is seen.

Because there's nothing extraordinary about her, anyway. She's just a shadow of the hero.

Leaf doesn't care.

.

Years later, he's still in love with him anyway, the greatest legend of legends. When he's about to leave on his last journey, she begs him to stay, says it's too dangerous, but Red disappears from her one empty morning.

She can handle danger, and follows him onto the never-ending peaks of silver. She is the only one who tries to make him stay because he belongs with her, and she can't bear to live a life without him, her very best friend.

Despite herself, she does have to admit that Red has never been the open type of person, always liked to keep to himself, always reticent. Maybe it's why she likes him so much, and perhaps it's why he leaves—

but this time it's why she arrives too late.

He's gone from her, and she knows she'll never see him again...

And so she cries herself to sleep in the numbing cold and darkness, because she's in love with a boy who is lost at the top of the world.

(But still, her name is long forgotten, the girl who came and went, passing with the wind.)

This is possibly a reference to the fact that Leaf isn't in the games if Red is your player character.

Thanks for reading! Please review, even if it's just to say you have no idea what's going on here. It's okay. XD
