Summary: Impromptu Sequel to 'Alone?' ß read first!!

Family

Buffy stared at the small child in her arms a warm feeling spreading through her. The tiny girl looked up at her with bright blue eyes with flecks of green in them and cooed at her mother.

            "She's beautiful." Buffy's husband murmured from the entrance to the small sterile hospital room. Buffy glanced up at him and smiled tiredly. The ex-Vampire walked in slowly his hands at his side as he watched his family. "She looks just like her mother."

            "She has her fathers eyes." Buffy replied quietly as Spike knelt next to the hospital bed. She reached her right hand out and took his hand in hers.

            Spike, now known as William had come back only a few months before saving Buffy from a vampire in one of the local cemeteries. He had been gone for months and in that time Buffy had found out she was pregnant. The slayer had been alone; every other member of the Scooby gang had been too caught up in his or her own lives to hold her back from the depression that had ensued.

            Spike met his lover's eyes and brushed his thumb over the engagement ring on her finger before leaning in to gently kiss her forehead.

            "Do you want to hold her?" Buffy's quiet voice asked. Spike froze in place not sure how to answer. After all he had done, after what had happened before he had left… she would still trust him with the care of her newborn daughter. He was still amazed that Buffy had been able to forgive him when he couldn't even forgive himself.

            "I-I don't want to hurt her." He replied lowering his head and avoiding her gaze.

            "You won't hurt her, I trust you." Buffy lifted her hand to caress his cheek as she spoke a small smile gracing her lips.

            Spike glanced up and finally let Buffy slip the small bundle into his arms. He held her gingerly letting Buffy adjust his hands to give the baby support where needed. He looked down into his daughters blue eyes as the baby cooed and gurgled up at him. A smile broke across his face as he did so, the first true smile Buffy had seen for a long time.

            "Can I come in?" Another voice asked from the door. Buffy glanced up to see her sister smiling from the doorway. Buffy nodded and Dawn walked in to sit on the other side of the bed. "She's beautiful Buffy." She told her sister as she admired her niece.

            Buffy stared at her family, her sister, who was a ball of energy known as the Key, an ex-Vampire now slayer who had loved her before he had even regained his soul, and her child, her daughter, something a slayer wasn't supposed to have.

Buffy smiled realizing they had broken all the rules that had been laid out before them, and it had gained them a family.
