Disclaimer: Any Star Wars elements belong to Mr. Lucas that genius of a man....
Note: I was reading one of Theed's new stories (gotta love that girl!) and a certain TPM quote stuck out at me, you can probably guess which one so thanks Theed! And I'm gonna post the second part of Back One Day as soon as I can!!
"I refuse to take the long way again!!" his words rumbled and echoed in her ear thousands of times like the free waves of an ocean shore, the only difference was Anakin was no longer free. "It's my life, my way!!" a tear flowed down her flushed cheek like dew on an exotic flower, except unlike most tears and most rain falls, this was not refreshing, nor a release. It was just another fleck of sand that was contributing to her burial that she forged on herself. But Anakin was right, so right. Anakin, Obi-Wan, and even herself, Padme Skywalker, had taken the long way, the safer way every time. The jedi took the long way, trusting the Light Side of the Force to deliver them to righteousness and virture. Serving others in order for peace to reign through the galaxy. Obi-Wan had even extended the time of Anakin's training from normal limits, in order to secure his destiny. Anakin had hated that. "We'll take the long way--" Padme had taken the long way all her life, ever since she told Jedi Master Qui-Gon Jinn that in order to free and win her people, she must take the longer, safer route from the sith demon, to glory and freedom. Now Anakin, tired of the longer way, took the shortcut insuring him power. He was a fool. And she was more of a fool for loving him.
Exhaling she walked into the now open doors of the lift. She closed her eyes at the jerk of it, as it began to rise to the level of the senate. Little did she know, she would join many of the billions of politicians in an ovational state of shock, as Palpatine declared himself Emperor of the Galaxy. "FINE!! Take the short cut, embrace the Darkside!! Your completely right Anakin!! Go ahead, it is your life!! But know that if you do leave the jedi and everthing you have made up to be good, moral and true, I will no longer be a part or having anything to do with that life of yours that you so proudly put above everyone elses!!" Padme could not believe that she had actually said those words to him. Though Anakin knew very well, Padme was not one to sit and do nothing, Padme had actually meant those words. And he knew it.
Taking a her steps regally onto her Naboo platform, the Senate finally began to quiet down. Within a few minutes mixed emotions rang through the large room. Cheers to screams of disbelief and opposition clouded Padme's thoughts. And only hightened her anxiety.
Obi-Wan had told her of the fight that him and Anakin had gotten into, and how he fell into the steaming liquid that burned his poor body. Obi-Wan had also later learned, that Anakin was kept alive in a hideous, black suit and had been given the sith name, Darth Vader. He had achieved his goal in a fast way. Padme knew that in this last battle for freedom and justice, she would not survive. Palpatine or Vader would surely kill her, and she would be taking the short route, instead of the long one to avoid death. But death was now all she prayed for. Obi-Wan would hide her child somewhere, and watch over him, waiting for that right time to train him. It was a long route, but somehow Padme knew that if he ever met up with Vader after setting Luke on the right path, he would see his chance for the short route, and choose a honorable death.
Little did Anakin or Vader know, that though he had taken the shorter, easier way to harness power, he had chosen the most difficult life. As Vader, his life, his path, his suffering, was the long way.
