This is a rewritten version of Jaden's time at duel academy. We will be following the main plot so you will recognize where we are in the story, but I will add and change a lot of things as we go along. There will be two OC's in this story, their names being Triss and Kat. I hope you enjoy them and what they add to the story.
Before we jump in, a few disclaimers: First of all, I don't own Yu-Gi-Oh GX... obviously. Second of all, this story isn't going to be a straight copy from the anime. Meaning that my characters won't be exactly like they were in the anime. These are 15-year-olds... they should act like actual 15-year-olds. If you came looking for the super-dense, not knowing what girls are, Jaden Yuki, then you came to the wrong place. You might call it "out of character," I call it being a believable and relatable character. Thirdly, and this is tying into number 2, these are young adults... there's going to be cursing, crushes, romance and the failure-of, sexual tension, and lots of "finding their way." I want this story to be immersing and fun, and to do that, you should be able to relate to these characters. No one went to school at 15 and knew everything there was. Most didn't know a ton about the opposite sex, and even if they did, few had actually had sex at this point. So flirting and whatnot should reflect that! If this doesn't sound like its for you... best leave now, because this story is going to be full of stupid, funny shit like this :D
This is my first attempt at writing something, not just on here but in general, so please give me constructive feedback. I won't really know what I'm doing wrong or what you guys want to see unless you tell me! Feel free to DM me or leave in a review any ideas you have! Even if I don't respond right away, or at all, I read everything you guys put on here! Who knows... you could give a really good idea that makes me chomp at the bits to get the next chapter out!
I was inspired by several authors on here while reading their versions of Yu-Gi-Oh GX but realized most of them didn't finish their stories or there simply wasn't enough to satisfy me. I really liked certain aspects of each of their stories and thought about blending those ideas with a bunch of my own and decided I would just make my own fanfic. I plan on making at least 3 seasons out of this story. I will list the authors here, make sure to check them out!

Chapter 1: The Prodigy
A man in his late 20's was walking in Domino City on a hot summer day. He was about 5'6 and wore an unbuttoned blue jacket over his black t-shirt, with black jeans. His hair a mix of Crimson, Black, and Gold. The streets were crowded but all stared at the man and whispered to each other. Of course, Yugi Muto was used to this. He was, after all, the king of games. All knew who he was after his famous duels at Duelist Kingdom and Battle City.
Yugi had been roaming the world for over a year now in search of someone. You see, he wanted to find a successor. He didn't want to duel for the rest of his life and wanted to pass the torch to another. Since Yugi had no kids with his wife Téa Gardner, he had to find someone that was worthy.
But who was the judge to figure out who was worthy? The Egyptian God cards were.
Yugi knew that when he found the right person, the Gods would sense it and he would pass them along to his successor. As he continued walking, he saw a bridge that led to a large dome. He knew this dome was where entrance exams took place for students to get into a special dueling school that his friend Kaiba owned.
Yugi then looked down and noticed a young man in front of him leaning over a rail, looking at the dome. He could sense his presence, giving off an aura. Yugi knew the young man was a strong duelist based off of this aura.
Winged Kuriboh appeared and started talking excitedly to Yugi, pointing to the young man.
"You really think so Kuriboh? Hmm… I guess it couldn't hurt to find out."
The cute brown furball nodded excitedly
'Hmmm, interesting.' Yugi thought as he walked over to the young man. He seemed to be talking to someone, even though no one was there. It was then that Yugi saw who he was speaking to, a duel spirit that had a female human's body but was quite demonic looking. She had two wings and each half of her hair were different colors.
The spirit disappeared quickly as he approached and leaned against the rail along with the young man. Yugi looked at him and realized he was just a boy. 'He couldn't be more than 15' Yugi thought.
"Are you planning on taking the exams?" Yugi asked as he too looked at the dome.
"Nah, I can't this year, unfortunately. I'm too young, I need to be 15 to enter and that will be another 8 months for me" the boy chuckled. He turned to Yugi to ask him his name but had a look of surprise on his face when he saw who it was.
"Oh! You're! Y-You're Yugi Muto! Wow! Holy shit I never thought I'd meet you! I'm Jaden Yuki!" Jaden stuck his hand out eagerly
Yugi couldn't help but smile and shake his hand. When he did, he felt a small shock go through his body. Yugi could sense the power in this young duelist. He was about to speak when he heard what he had been listening for, for a year now.
"Him." That's all the voices said before disappearing.
Yugi was excited. He knew that he had just met the next King of Games.
"Nice to meet you Jaden Yuki. I have been searching the world for you" Yugi was grinning from ear to ear.
Jaden looked shocked. "Wait... what? We've never even met! You pulling my leg?" Jaden laughed
"Let me tell you something Jaden." Yugi sighed. "I'm tired. I've dueled in countless tournaments and I can't duel for the rest of my life. I want to retire… retire with my wife." He looked out at the water and paused for a moment before continuing.
"So, I have been looking for someone to be my successor. Obviously, I have no kids of my own, so I had to find someone young and talented. I think that is you" Yugi explained.
Jaden nodded, trying to take it all in before forming a response in his head
"First of all, a successor to what? And second of all, how do you know I should be it? You haven't even seen me duel! You literally just met me" Jaden laughed
It was then that he saw Winged Kuriboh on Yugi's shoulder and smiled at him. "Oh wow, Cute duel spirit Yugi! I have one too!"
Jaden was focused on the cute monster, not paying attention to what Yugi was doing in front of him as he laughed and played with Kuriboh
"Yes, I saw you talking to her as I approached. How long has she been your duel spirit for?" Yugi asked as he grabbed a silver lock box from his bag
"As long as I can remember... she's kind of annoying sometimes... she's literally always there" Jaden said as they both started laughing
"I understand you completely" Yugi chuckled as the handed the silver box to Jaden
"What's this?" Jaden asked curiously
"A gift... for the next King of Games" Yugi grinned
"I feel like this is something you do to every kid you see, just to make their day" Jaden chuckled
"Not every kid has what's in that box, Jaden. Please keep it safe" Yugi said as he handed a necklace with a key on it to Jaden
"What's in it?" Jaden asked as he looked between it and Yugi
"Something that belongs with you... I'll be in touch!" Yugi grinned as he walked away, leaving Jaden standing alone with his thoughts
'Might as well see what's inside' Jaden thought as he turned the key in the lock box
As he slowly opened it, he and his duel spirit both gasped
'I guess he wasn't kidding!' Yubel exclaimed
