My Life for Yours
My sweet little girl,
The one that I love,
I wish to see you,
Little turtledove,
I'd trade my life,
For innocent yours'
But this world's unkind,
With all closed doors
I long to hold you,
Just for a moment,
I'm waiting for you,
My little God sent
I need you, Cosette,
My sweet, come to me!
But night closes in,
I can barely see
I want you to know,
I've always loved you,
Though I've been away,
I hope you do too
I'll be a good mother,
As long as you're mine,
If God will let me,
See you one last time
If that cannot be
I promise a life,
A father that loves,
Without pain or strife
As I close my eyes
I see only you
I fear it's the last
