It was over. Everything she had ever worked for was ever. The second Massie stepped on that plane to England,a gut feeling had told her that. She had ignored it until it was ready to pop inside of her, threatening her very being.

Her dad was gone. Long gone. Her mother was forceful, thinking everything she did was wrong. Her first moral enemy was the one who had given her life.

Her life came tumbling down like a chain of dominoes. Her friends had scattered and pretended everything they had been through was completely fiction.

And soccer, her beautiful, beautiful soccer, had been nabbed. And so in this moment when she was standing on the stage, waiting to hear her punishment for doing what her mother had told her, she couldn't help but think:What else could they possibly take?

But,unbeknownst to her, they had only just begun. And so,in that same very second when the word 'expulsion' escaped the Principal's lips she found out how much they could really take. Collapsing onto the floor, her blonde hair spewed everywhere. Tears flowing directly from her green eyes, she looked into the back of the room where her mother was standing. She looked in the hallway where her 'friends' were watching. And she couldn't take it. She couldn't take not having a place to call home, not having soccer, not having-anything. But in that moment, her mind also cleared. The numbed insides she had held for so many months now was finally unlocking. And while she was cry-laughing there by herself, she realized what she had been holding in all this time.

Kristen Gregory had nothing left to lose.
