Team: Earth Kingdom
Round 2: Hope
Story: Drabble
Prompt: Giddy
Word Count: 578
Momo glared at the Fire Lord. He pulled out his giant fire-sword that was also a boomerang.
"Momo, my arch nemesis!" cried the Fire Lord. "I will defeat you once and for all, and then I will defeat the world and rule the universe with evilness forever!"
But he was no match for the great and powerful Avatar Momo. Momo charged with his awesome fire-sword-erang and destroyed the Fire Lord until he was ashes.
"Noooooo!" screamed the Fire Lord like a little girl screams in the night for a treat. Momo stood on the cliff and looked at the sunset.
"Liar liar, Fire Lord on fire!"
"And that's the end!" Sokka put down the notebook and grinned expectantly at his awestruck audience.
Aang's mouth was parted, Katara's eyebrows were high on her forehead, Toph was covering her face with her hands, and Zuko… well, Zuko had no expression, but that wasn't really saying much.
"Well?" Sokka asked, breathless with giddy excitement. "What do you think? Is it the perfect present for Suki or what?"
Silence. Katara and Aang exchanged dubious glances and Zuko just sighed.
"It was… uh, creative?" Aang admitted after he could no longer bear the awkward silence. Sokka leapt into the air, whooping in triumph.
"Yes! Okay, what else?" he turned to his sister with those wide, expectant blue eyes that made any desire to tell the truth immediately vanish from Katara's mind.
"I'm sure Suki will love it, Sokka," she said gently.
"Really?!" his grin widened.
She clenched her teeth and attempted to contort her face into something resembling a smile. "Mmhmm," she hummed.
"What am I going to love?"
Everyone jumped to their feet as Suki rounded the corner of the Air Temple building behind them. Sokka shoved the book behind his back as she drew closer toward them.
The gang exchanged looks, then came up with excuses to vacate immediately. "I have to start dinner!" Katara squeaked. "I'll help!" piped up Aang. Zuko didn't even bother to come up with an excuse; he just walked away with a sympathetic look in poor, unsuspecting Suki's direction. Toph made to follow him, stopping momentarily to pat Suki's arm consolingly.
Suki watched them all vanish with confusion. "What's up with those guys?"
Sokka gestured theatrically for her to take a seat on the ground before him. She did so. "I have a 'Welcome to the Group' present for you!" Sokka announced grandly.
Suki clapped happily. "Oh, Foo Foo Cuddly Poops, you shouldn't have!"
He whipped out the book and waved it in the air. "It's a book! And it's written by yours truly, thank you very much!"
To her credit, Suki didn't even miss a beat in feigning her enthusiasm. She oohed and ahhed sufficiently, prompting Sokka to clear his throat and crack open the notebook to begin round two of Reading Time.
"Chapter One," he began, voice low and deep to heighten the drama, "The Fantastic Beginning of Avatar Momo's Amazing Adventures to Defeat the Evil Fire Lord With His Super Awesome Sword-Slash-Boomerang."
. . .
"The things Suki puts up with for that guy…" Toph shook her head sympathetically. "It's been two whole hours and he's only on Chapter 4!"
Katara admonished her a little, saying, "Oh come on, Toph. I think it's sweet."
Zuko scoffed. "Yeah, it's adorable, just as long as we never have to listen to another one of Sokka's 'masterpieces' ever again."
On that, everyone was in total agreement.
