On a dusky evening, a dark red car is driving down a long, faded road. A slightly slanted, colossal rock wall looms to the right of the car. There are several warning signs along the road that are dented and weathered. A railing lines the opposite side of the road to the wall. Inside the car are two people; one in the driver's seat and one in the back seat. A girl wearing a green shirt with a single yellow stripe in the middle, and an average sized man in jeans, and a white shirt, with dark stains on it.

"Dad, where are we going?" asked Chara.

Chara looked at her father expecting a quick response.

"Fine, don't tell me then." Chara pouted.

She stared out the car window on her side, she tried to see the top of the rock wall, but the top was far past what she could see.

"Chara, we're going to a great place." replied James.

"Is Mom waiting for us at least?

"She's there, she could be waiting for us depending if she's asleep or not, but she's there."

Chara went back to just sitting in her seat, she yawned. It was getting a bit late; the sun was lowering over the horizon. The drive so far has been a couple of hours long and with not much to do Chara thought about going to sleep.

James slowly pulled the car over to the side of the road and parked it. He reached into his jeans pocket and pulled out a long black cloth and held it towards Chara motioning for her to take it, she took it looking at it puzzled.

"Wait, why are you giving me a blindfold?" She asked expecting an answer.

Seeing that her father wasn't answering her, she started to wave the black cloth vigorously until James responded with.

James sighed. "Well, I don't want you to see all the places we that we are fixing to pass up, after all it is a surprise."

Chara stopped waving the cloth and tied it on her head having it cover her eyes. After short while she started to think. Pondering why she would have to put on a blindfold. James started the car and resumed driving.

"Wait a minute..." Chara thought hard about stuff she really wanted to do that she mentioned to her parents that involved going out of town, after several minutes of driving went by with her staring at the black piece of cloth handed to her, she asked, "Are we going camping for my birthday?"

"Well…." James said quietly.

Chara immediately perked up. "What!? We totally are!" Chara started bouncing up and down on her seat, with a huge smile on her face. "I can't wait!"

James chuckled. "Well, you can at least wait ten more minutes 'till we get there, otherwise you'll use all your energy by the time we get there."

Chara stopped bouncing but didn't stop with the smile. "Hey, Dad?"

"Yes, what is it Chara?"

"Doesn't it look nice out here?" Chara said while scooting over to the other side of the back seat while staring out the car window.

James, not really paying attention to the scenery, but understood what Chara was saying. "Yes, it's why I picked the place out. Since you enjoy being outside, we thought we should take you to a nice place for camping."

Chara after settling down, gave a slight frown. She thought about the fact that none of her "friends" wanted to come with her on the birthday trip. She called all her friends to ask them about coming over to her house the night before and for a couple of days afterward for the birthday trip. They all gave different excuses for not being able to come over, one of them straight up said no and hung up the phone. "So much for them being my friends." Chara thought to herself

Chara heard James sigh heavily. Almost like he read her mind, he said "Chara, I'm sorry your friends couldn't make it. We asked their parents, but your friends all had plans over Spring Break."

Chara exhaled "It's fine…."Chara sighed.

"Want me to tell you something about the place we're going?" James asked in an attempt to fix her mood.

"I thought it was a secret?" Chara said perking up a bit, being interested at the statement.

"Well, don't tell your mother I told you, but there's this beautiful field of golden flowers. There's a lot of other places we'll be out there, but those are surprise, but knowing you, you'll love it." said James.

With the mention of the all that stuff and more, Chara gave a slight smile back. "That sounds really nice."

"I hope it'll be very nice for you. I guarantee you'll have a great time over your Spring Break Birthday Bash!"

Chara rolled her eyes at the cheesy name, before wondering where all their gear is. "Does Mom have our stuff for camping?"

"Yes, she does, she packed everything we needed and bought everything else we needed but didn't have. She did it pretty fast too, that's why I said she could be asleep, she spent along while getting everything."

Chara couldn't see anything, but that didn't stop her from imagining what she would be seeing on this camping trip. A rushing waterfall, a crystal blue lake and calm rivers for swimming in, climbing the rocky mountain, camping under the starlit sky in the giant field of yellow flowers with a small campfire crackling away in the calm dark night. All that and potentially so much more, she didn't even know if she would get to do all that stuff, but the idea of doing any of that stuff made her happy.

A silence settled in the car only accompanied by the occasional bump of passing over small rocks.

"Hey Dad, when, will I be able to ride in the front with you or Mom when the other isn't in the care?"

"Chara, your only fifteen years o-"

"SIXTEEN!" She yelled back at him interrupting his sentence.

James laughed "Yeah, how could I forget? Well, I personally don't have a problem with it, but you know your mother. She's all about safety; it took me a while to convince her because even of all the stories surrounding area."

"What stories?" Chara asked interested.

"Some about people being squished by the occasional rockfall when leaving or entering the area, one about being lost in the rapids if you're careless, and the one that your mother was absolutely stubborn about…"

"What is it Dad? What was Mom so stubborn about?"

After a brief moment of silence and suspense for Chara, her father spoke up.

"The people that live near the area call the mountain, Mt. Ebott, after the town's founder."

"What's the person's full name? What is the town like? Will we go there?" Chara asked in a rapid pace.

"I don't know, I don't know, and most importantly I don't know. I know your mother will go there because she wanted to see what the town is like while we're camping, as for us, that'll be a toss-up in the air, depends on how our camping trip goes, but what I absolutely know is that their most popular story in the town is about people walking up the mountain, only to never come back down."

Chara grew wide eyed at the mention. "So much for swimming in calm rivers and climbing the mountain." Chara thought to herself feeling a bit disappointed at the aspect.

"Have there been any cases of any of those stories being real?" Chara asked slightly scared.

"No, it's just told to scare young kids from climbing the mountain because of wild animals and the such. As for the other stories, there has been a couple of cases with someone being carried away by the rapids, but the rest haven't been confirmed even up to today, the mountain climbing story they tell kids is pretty interesting to if you want to hear it one da-."

Chara noticed the car was slowing down as the sound of the car was growing quiet "Dad, why are we slowing down?"

"Well Chara, we're close." James said in a vague manner.

"Close to what, come on, are we near the place or something?"

Chara felt the car come to a halt and shortly after heard the car's engines turn off with a car door opening and closing within seconds of each other.

"Oh boy." She thought to herself with a big smile on her face barley containing her excitement.

She heard her car door open. Chara unbuckled her seat belt, James took her hand and carefully helped her get out of the car while closing the card door. James led her for a bit towards a certain direction, after a minute of walking on a dirt path, James stopped with Chara stopping soon after.

"Ok Chara, we're here, you can take off your blindfold now!"
