Sparta Part I

I opened my eyes for the first time to see a man cleaning me up with a damp cloth and woman who was very happy to see me, I didn't know who she was

but one word kept going through my mind, MOTHER.

Once the man was done he handed me to the woman, who smiled and said

"My son, you'll shall be named Lysander". She then began rocking me and hummed a song and I soon closed my eyes.

The next time I was awoke, I was on a stone slab being examined by men

who were speaking among themselves, they soon said "Pass".

The rest of those years were a blur, until I was eight, more physically fit and better educated in the ways of the world, it was then when it was the last time I saw my mother. I was taken away to become what I was destined to be,

a SPARTAN WARRIOR.

For several years I was harshly trained to fight, kill, withstand pain, and even die for the state, but it wasn't as terrible as it sounds.

There were people that made it easier, like Helena.

She was a girl that I had loved for so many years and she loved me too.

Helena was beautiful, smart, and my world.

Sadly, when I was thirteen i had to pass a test that would decide whether I became a warrior or die, I would be left in the wilderness with nothing but my wits and skill for seven years.

"What troubles you Lysander?" questioned Helena

"You know Helena, don't be ignorant!" shouted Lysander

"My love, why are you being so cruel?" cried Helena

"Forgive me my love, it's just that I don't think my heart can bear to be away from you for that long," pleaded lysander

"Nor do I think mine can, but we must be strong for the state and most of all us." answered Helena

I looked into Helena eyes for a moment to see she about to shed tears at any moment.

Soon we embraced with a hug to comfort each, we knew that this wouldn't happen again for seven long years.

The day I shipped to the country side by a small carriage, I felt such a sorrow that lower men would kill themselves over.

When I got off that buggy, I knew that I must endure the hardships that will come my way for Helena and the state.

Hey this Spartan warrior, be sure to tell me what you think so far of the story and be ready for part II where our hero returns to his love only to be quickly sent to war! Should be a nailbiter.
