Author's Note: This is a One Shot, supporting my larger story: Too Dangerous For A Woman. It explains the origins of the third twins, and gives a little insight to how Elladan and Elrohir felt about it all. I hope you enjoy, no flames please. Comments and suggestions would be appreciated, though.

Disclaimer: Oh, how I wish to own The Lord Of The Rings. But, I don't. And neither do you.

Rivendell: TA 1329

To many, Elladan and Elrohir appeared very much the same. In truth, they were mirror images of each other, and rarely did the pair ever separate. But those who knew them well could assure you that the two were indeed very different in their own, small ways. To their father, it seemed that Elrohir was more like himself, and also more mature than his counterpart. But this also meant that Elrohir had little faith in the hearts of men, and the future of Middle-Earth. Some would call him pessimistic, though brave and honorable to his kin.

Elladan, however, held on to more hope than either his brother or his father. He was also closer with Arwen, and was the one that she confided in most often, all the while knowing that Elladan would in turn confide in Elrohir, who would share her thoughts with Elrond. But that, as many would say, is what a family is for.

Yet these differences could only be noticed after spending much time with the twins, for most elves, even in Rivendell, could not tell them apart. And to find one without the other was as rare as finding a hobbit among 6000 Rohirm riders. Still, it happened, and the maiden Lithiel could testify to this. For she often discovered Elrohir without his sibling, tucking away in a corner of Imladris' vast library. Here, she interrupted his studying to speak with him.

And so, in the lamplight of the archives, the two fell in love. And suddenly, Elrohir found himself in need of her company, more often than the company of Elladan. Yet from his twin he hid this, never openly stating that he was meeting with someone in his long hours away. And Elladan was rare to enter the library, so it was long before he discovered the truth.

But one day Elladan could bear it no longer. "Tell me, brother, why do you spend so much of your time in the library? Has my company failed you? Or have you found a deep joy among all that Eldar lore? Surely you can not enjoy so much time alone."

"Elladan, it is not the lore that holds my interest there. Rather, it is Lithiel. I wish to take her hand." This Elrohir confessed, with his head bowed so it nearly touched his toes. For it shamed him to think of taking part in something that his twin could not. This must have upset Elladan as well, for he was quiet for a very long while. Finally, he spoke.

"Have you told Ada and Nana?" The elf asked of him softly. When Elrohir shook his head in answer, Elladan nodded. "Then I will help you."

And so, there was nothing begrudged between the two. Yet for long it seemed that they were separated in some unwanted, irreversible way. Elrohir wed Lithiel, and later they bore their own set of twins, the third in the line.

"They are beautiful children," Elladan commented as he stood beside his brother, watching as two small Elflings ran near the stream with their mother. One, a young boy, looked the same as they had at such an age. But the other was a tiny girl, and even in her small face all could see the makings of a great beauty.

"Let is hope that they fair better in this world than we have."

Notes on the Elvish:
Ada: Father, in this case referring to Elrond
Nana: Mother, in this case referring to Celebrian
Lithiel: Her name means "Dust Maiden"
