Title: It's What I Do Best
Author: Allie allieaz@hotmail.com
Spoilers: The Box Part II
Summary: What could have happened at the end of the episode.
Distribution: Sure, go ahead, share the wealth. Just let me know.
Author's notes: This is my first fanfic that I've ever posted. It's short, but somewhat sweet. There are others, good feedback means I might just share. Side note, I'm not a big fan of angst but this just felt right.
Disclaimer: Alias and all characters are property of JJ Abrams, Bad Robot Productions, ABC. I'm just having fun for now; I'll give them back when I'm done.
Now on with the show...
It was the end of a long day. Vaughn watched as the CIA team put McKenas Cole into the back of the van. Sydney handed him the box that had caused the whole fiasco in the first place; he slowly turned it over in his hands. Vaughn's heart began to race as he contemplated his future with Sydney.
"I'll see you later." Sydney said giving him a half smile.
"Syd." Vaughn said grabbing her arm gently as she began to go back into SD-6. He studied her face for a moment. Her lip was bleeding slightly from her encounter with Cole. He knew she could take a punch; hell, he knew she could throw one. She looked at him wearily, her body and mind exhausted from the day's events.
"What?" She asked.
"I probably won't be seeing you again." He said in a soft tone as if to lessen the blow.
"Why?" She looked at him quizzically. She searched his face for an answer.
"Well, I broke a lot of protocol to help you out. I doubt I'm on Devlin's good side right now."
"But everything worked out perfectly. No one even knows you're here." Sydney said, absentmindedly taking his hand in hers.
"But there are other things." He said softly.
"What other things?" Vaughn looked down unable to look her in the eye. His mind raced with thoughts about his meeting with Barnett.
"Vaughn, what other things?" Sydney said raising her voice, causing Weiss to turn around.
Vaughn looked up. She had a pained look on her face. He reached his hand up and caressed her cheek. Her skin was soft, just as Vaughn had imagined it would be. He pulled her towards him until he could feel the warmth of her body next to him. He leaned in slightly, his lips just brushing hers.
"I'll miss you." With those words he deepened the kiss. Sydney didn't move away, instead she pulled him even closer, reciprocating his feelings. After what seemed like an eternity, he backed away and looked at her one more time. He smiled and kissed her forehead. Vaughn squeezed her hand one last time and turned away. As he got into the van Sydney called after him.
"You know I'll find you, Vaughn. It's what I do best."
