Star Trek and Hawaii Five-O belong to others. I'm just hanging out in their universes. Jethro, of course, is a young Jethro Gibbs.

This story is a response to the challenge to use the phrase "Maybe Danny might know what it is."

IT'S A WHAT?

Steve picked up the fuzzy, round object sitting on Five-O office manager Jenny Sherman's desk. The thing emitted a loud squeak.

"I don't know what it is, Boss," Jenny shook her head. "Jethro dropped it off after lunch. He says it's for Danny."

Chin stifled a laugh. "Looks more like something my little girls might like. I wonder what it does."

"Or what you do with it," Kono added. "Maybe Danny knows what it is. Looks like a toy for dogs."

"It came in this bag," Jenny noted. Steve took the simple brown paper sack. "Federation Trading Post," he mused as he looked at the logo—a roughly triangular shield with "UFP" printed across it. "You really think Danno might recognize this? Where is he, anyway?"

"Here, Steve." Five-O's youngest detective rushed in. "Sorry I'm late—got caught in a traffic jam down by that Star Trek convention." He spotted the fuzz ball in Steve's hand. "Did Gibbs bring that?"

"He did," Mc Garrett replied, a bit of impatience showing in his face. "What is it?" Kono added, "And what with this UFP stuff?"

"It's a tribble. My girlfriend wanted one. UFP is the United Federation of Planets."

"Tribble? What's a tribble?" Steve was beginning to worry about his second-in-command. Maybe he needed a day off.

"Well," Danny wondered how he was going to explain this one. "It's a small creature that's born pregnant. It loves humans and Vulcans but hates Klingons." Seeing Steve's confused look, he quickly added, "You know, Star Trek."

"Star Trek? Your latest girlfriend is a Trekkie?" Kono and Chin snickered at the boss' reference to Dan's notorious social life. Dan's eyes widened as he took in Steve's teasing.

"Well," Steve grinned, "I guess there's only one thing to do about it." He pretended to open a communicator. "Beam me up, Scotty. There's no intelligent life on this planet!"
