Adrien eyed up the big red button and sighed.

Someone had to do it, and he did not like the fact that it had to be him. The moral conflict was tearing him apart, splitting him down to his soul.

It had all started three months ago, when he had discovered the truth about his mother.

She was murdered, for trying to save life itself.

Humanity is killing life, inflicting countless acts of cruelty daily and causing species after species to go extinct. Now, it is the day of judgment, just as his mother intended.

For the past three months, Adrien worked tirelessly to assemble the ultimate mutli-disciplinary team of destruction. Geneticists, virologists, pathologists, the dream team of evil scientific genius.

Except none of these scientists were evil, they saw the world as it is. A beautiful planet being killed by the cancer that is humanity. The cancer had to be killed off, for the sake of the survival of the host.

It took two months to develop Omega, and another month to spread it all over the world, to prepare it for release.

Adrien opened a fresh bottle of vodka, poured himself a glass and stepped onto the balcony.

The sun was setting over London, looking down he could see people walking along the Thames, living a blissful life.

Blissful, but to what expense?

Adrien began to speak, in a voice akin to a judge reading out a death sentence.

"By the power bestowed upon me through science, I have transcended from the real of Homo Sapien to become a God. Today is the day; humanity is about to die. Humanity has overstepped their bounds, they have committed evil; becoming the biggest practitioners of genocide the universe has ever known."

With a shake of his head, he continued on, "The oceans are filled with plastic that is poisoning fish. The land has grown barren because of our greed. The ozone layer has shredded because of our cars."

"I am going to liberate the world of the cancer called Homo Sapien." Lifting his arm, Adrien pointed out to the world, "Humanity, I hereby pronounce you guilty of genocide and sentence you to death."

He paused, mind filling with doubt. He could hear the hum of the crowds down below, oblivious to their imminent destruction and broke down into tears.

"I love all humanity, in all its stupidity," he chocked, hands coming up to clench at his shirt, "it is still beautiful."

This dialectic existence needed to end. One way or another, he didn't care. There are only wrong choices, and each one will pain his heart on a level he was sure he would not be able to handle.

Yet, it had to be done.

He had to follow his mother's dying wish, the very reason she is no longer alive.

With a heavy sigh, Adrien downed the vodka bottle. He close his eyes and pressed the button.

The act was done.

Humanity is doomed.

The virus released itself, killing all humans it encountered. Apocalyptic scenes played out on earth, chaos reigned in all its beauty.

This was it, this was the death of humanity.

Earth will continue, life will propagate. Biodiversity will flourish again.

Adrien committed suicide shortly after the release with a bullet through his mouth aimed through the midbrain, dying a martyr; killing humanity to save life itself.

The most noble of goals.
