OoOoOo

Evie Cruz stood with all the other 17 year olds in District 2. She was impatient, after this her family was going to throw a party celebrating the fact that their precious only daughter was safe. Actually it stopped being a party about 3 years ago and now was just another chance to show their neighbors their incredible wealth. Evie let her mind wander to the silk white dress with blue ribbons that her mother had bought her to wear at the party Evie's Mom had the dress specially made to compliment Evie's dark curls, pale face and curves. A boom of static brought Evie's attention back to the stage. Claudia Green, the escort of District 2 stood smiling at the mass of people in front of her. "Welcome everyone" she crooned and it took all of Evie's manners to keep from rolling her eyes at the ridiculous accent. "I can tell we have a winner here" Claudia said wobbling back to the center of the stage with a piece of paper in her hand. Evie let herself think once more about her grand entrance... then "Evie Cruz" Claudia called scanning the crowd. Evie froze Did she say Evie Cruz? The crowd parted and Evie stumbled through the pathway they created dazedly. Claudia smiled as she asked for volunteers. Evie grasped at this straw: District 2 was one of the few Districts that actually had volunteers. Evie looked out into the crowd pleading with her eyes to volunteer. When she was met by blank looks and guilty glances she felt her heart drop. Last year people actually lunged for the stage, fighting for a chance to compete and now nothing? Claudia by now had decided that they had spent enough time on volunteers and had wobbled over to the ball that had the boys' names and had thrust her hand inside. Having successfully grabbed one she cleared her throat and called out... "Jake Bendin". Evie looked as the boy climbed up the stage. He was tall with light brown curls creating a crown on his tanned face. Evie attempted a smile as they shook hands but her facial muscles wouldn't cooperate. The National Anthem played as the peacekeepers led us to the Justice Building. As I waited for my parents to arrive I fiddled with my locket. I had it ever since I was 5 when a old lady gave it to me. The door opens and I paste a big smile, believing that it was my parents coming to tell me that someone had volunteered, that I wasn't going to be late for my own party, that this was just a nightmare. Instesad a Peacekeeper comes in saying that ot ios time to go. I frown "What about my parents? Aren't they visiting?" The Peacekeeper looks at me blankly "Your Parents refused to see you"
