Yellow and Pink make sunshine, sort of.

They had been neighbors for years.

He had no idea she existed, though, not until the day he turned five.

"Hey, leave him alone!"

He glimpsed upwards from the barrier he had created with his arms, but could only catch a glimpse of pink before he hid once more. He saw a foot aimed right for his head.

A moment later, he realized no pain had come. Weird. Maybe they had punched and kicked him so much this week that they were just too tired. They did this every single day they caught him outside, trying to have fun by himself in the sand box. The kids weren't very fond of his hair color – a bright yellow.

The blonde peeked upwards and saw a pink haired girl standing with her back to him.

"Y-you slapped me! You pink haired freak, you slapped me!" One of the darker haired boys cried out as he held his left cheek.

"Want me to slap the other side too? And weren't you just about to kick him?" She asked as she placed her left hand on her hip and motioned her head to the boy behind her.

"Yeah we w-" the other one said before the pink haired girl raised her fist once again.

"Well don't try it again, or I'll make you cry and tell your mom!"

The two boys took a few steps back, "W-well, we don't care anyway, you freaks can go and have fun with yourselves, whatever!" They ran out of the park.

"Hey you! Get up, will you?" The pink haired girl held her hand out, "The sand is going to get into your pants and stuff, that's not going to be really fun at all."

The boy look her hand and stood. He was slightly shorter than her, which made him uncomfortable. He'd just been saved by a girl. Wasn't he supposed to be the prince charming in his life story? He mentally groaned. It wasn't fair! This... this girl came along and acted the part before he even had the chance to hit puberty.

"Okay quiet boy, the name's Sakura," she said with a grin, "My mom told me to look for you, or I think it's you, you're the only one boy with yellow hair I've seen all day."

He quirked a brow and paused for a moment before grinning as well. It was okay. He'd be the prince charming some other day. "I'm Naruto, believe it!"

Sakura laughed and punched him in the shoulder, "So hey, did you know that we're neighbors?"

Naruto gave her a look of disbelief. "You live in that abandoned house? I never knew anybody lived there! I thought ghosts were in there moving around all the time!"

The pink haired girl held back her urge to slap him on the head, "Yeah, well people move around too." But he had a point. She herself was never there, since she and her family had been in a different town for the sake of her father's work. Her mom would come around on occasion to keep the place clean. He didn't really need to know that though, it was too boring to mention.

He tapped his fingers to his chin and looked up, in thought, "Well that explains a lot of things!"

Sakura rolled her eyes.

"This means we're friends, right?" He asked with bright and hopeful eyes. Wow his eyes were really blue.

She nodded and held out her pinky, "Friends and neighbors for ever!"

Naruto hooked his pinky finger with hers, "Believe it!"

Well, at least she finally had someone she could star-gaze with.
