Disclaimer: I think that if anyone on this site actually owned KH, things would turn out differently. Much differently. Be glad that none of us do. ;)
Warning: Spoilers for a certain part of KH2, if you squint and/or haven't beaten the game.
Other: This fic is dedicated to Aloria, the person who inspired it. This is what happens when two KH fanfic authors get together and talk. ;)
(Why) Computers and Rebels Shouldn't Mix
Hayner knew it was wrong. He knew that Pence and Olette would never allow it. But they had left, saying something about schoolwork and parents. 'So much for holding down the fort.' Moreover, Sora and the others would probably be there, and tell him to go back.
"Who cares?" he said aloud, sarcastically, rebelliously. He had never followed the rules — be they written, spoken, or unspoken — before now, so why bother starting?
Glancing at the beam of light, he got that tight feeling in his stomach, the feeling that came when he knew he was about to do something really bad, that he wouldn't be able to go back and fix everything if he screwed up. 'Heh, it always shows up before anything good happens too. I'm not gonna let my dumb stomach stop me.'
Many things could be said of Hayner, few of them good. However, let it never be said that he was a coward, or he'll make that person wish that they were a Heartless in front of Sora's merciless keyblade.

In another, very similar, town, the constant twilight was slowly declining into what may accurately be called 'dusk.' The sky was nearing its darkest point, which was some sort of not-quite-half-light.
Another, very similar, boy was standing in front of an old mansion that had seen better days. He threw his backpack to the side, not even bothering to wince as it hit an unforgiving stone wall. Smirking up at the gate that locked him out, he climbed over it.
"C'mon house, give me your worst. I know that Roxas is in there somewhere, and I'm going to find him."
---
Strangely enough, in a perverted sense of irony, his statement was true. Sora stepped into the metallic blue room, looking around. To his side, a mouse pointed out a glowing orb, the doorway to their destination.
---
Just as Sora and his companions crossed that threshold, Hayner stepped out of a beam of light, glancing around and noting the completely trashed computer screens. He headed, quickly and surely, up the stairs into what could barely pass for a library in this strange place. Climbing up more stairs and opening the door, he entered the foyer at the same time as the other boy, his exact duplicate in everything except memories (or, in the duplicate's case, data), entered the very same foyer through the front door.
---
Without noticing each other, the two headed for the same set of stairs. They finally caught sight of one another as they stepped onto the small landing. Nothing could match the look of shock upon Hayner's face, except maybe the equally shocked expression of his duplicate.
