Before you read this I want you to know that this is a translation of a story I already posted here in german. There probably are a lot of mistakes since english is not my first language, but I wanted to try it none the less. I really hope that it's not that bad and I'd appreciate it if you could help me improve this story by commenting it. The song is I will follow you into the dark by death cab for cutie.

Love of mine some day you will die
But I'll be close behind
I'll follow you into the dark

When they called, he was sitting on the sofa, wondering where you were.

They said you were dead, stabbed, because you wanted to safe a girl. You couldn't have been saved anymore.

He couldn't believe it. They said he should come to the identification. And then he saw you, three stabs with a knife. You were bleeding to death.

He didn't recognize you. You didn't smile.

And then he was sitting at your home, your hat in his hands and at every little sound he was looking up, wishing for you to stand in that doorframe and to hear you complain about being hungry and that you wanted something to eat right now.

But you weren't coming. You were still laying on that damn table in the hospital with a little slip of paper on your big toe.

And he, well he never felt so empty before.

The funeral was one week later, everyone you knew was there.

He was sitting in the first row, along with your brother Ace, your foster father Shanks and with Usopp, Nami, Sanji and everyone you were so close to.

But he knew you best, always.

He never complained when you were waking him up at three o'clock in the morning because you couldn't sleep and wanted to drive anywhere, really, just far away. Or when you had to be nursed back to health because you spontaneously wanted to take a walk in the rain. And now no one will ask him for his share of meat, no one will snuggle on your lap while you take your nap and fall asleep there.

Can you see the desperation in his face?

Can you resent him for getting in his car with your beloved hat on the passenger seat where you always sat? For driving until he got to the beach, the one you liked so much, and on and on until the water was gathering around his feet and on and on and on.

And the hat that meant so much to you was pressed tightly in his hands. Until the end. Forever.

You know that he would follow you everywhere.

Into the darkness. Into nothingness. Into death.

He loved you.

If there's no one beside you
When your soul embarks
Then I'll follow you into the dark
