Chapter 1: Bella's POV
I was down at our little cottage with Edward. We had come back to the cottage shortly after I had dropped Nessie off at school. Edward and I wanted some alone time and I wanted to relax in the tub with my book before Nessie came home from School.
I love being a Mom. Don't get me wrong, but I feel like I am always on the go with Nessie and trying to keep up with her.
At the moment, I was curled up on the couch reading my poor, old copy of Wuthering Heights, my favorite book. Edward was on the couch next to me watching TV and Jacob was passed out on Nessie's' bed. He had to patrol last night.
I sighed and put my book down. It was almost time to pick up Nessie. To be honest, I was bored when she wasn't here with her endless chatter about random nonsense.
Edward noticed I had gotten off the couch and smiled. "Are you going to pick up Ness?"
"Yup. I'm going to bring Jake with me. Ness hasn't stopped bugging me about when she will see him because she missed him." I said.
Edward rolled his eyes and I smirked at him.
"Ness will love to see that Jacob can be there when she gets home from school. If I remember correctly, I think Jacob owes her a few rounds of the board game Candy Land." Edward said.
"You can tell that to Jake as soon as I get him up. Can I see that pillow please?" I asked.
Edward chuckled. "Is that how you're going to wake up Jake? By throwing a pillow at him? Poor guy has been up since 6:00 a.m."
"That is more than enough hours of sleep. That's 8 hours. He needs to get up and thanks for the pillow." I said grabbing it from Edward.
I walked into Nessie's room where I found Jake snoring away. His arms were sprawled out and his head dangling off the side and he was drooling. I quickly snapped a picture and then threw the pillow at him.
Jake groaned and mumbled, "Go away."
"Get up, you lazy bum. Time to get Nessie from school. We are going to be a few minutes late as it is. She has been bugging me on when she would see you.
Jake turns over and faces the wall and said, "Really"?
I pick up a stuff animal this time and chucked it at him in the face. That got him up.
"You're worse than Ness Bella. I'm up." Jake said.
I tossed him his shirts and shoes and he quickly put them on. Then we headed out to the car.
On the way out, Edward had to say "Oh Jake, when you guys get home, Nessie wants to play a few rounds of Candy Land. She said you promised the other day."
Jake groaned.
Edward and I were laughing and I dragged a half-sleeping Jake out to the car.
Jake and I got to the school just as the school busses were pulling into the parking lot. Parents were waiting for the kids inside and outside their cars. I was one of the parents that waited in the car.
"How does Ness like public school?" Jake asked.
"I think she likes it. She was a little shy when she first started going. She was worried she wouldn't know how to fit in because she has been homeschooled. But, from what her teacher has told us, she is doing wonderful and has a good handful of friends and doing well with her school work." I said.
Jake smiles a little. "I'm glad to hear that. I don't think I could take it if some bratty kid was being a bully to her."
"None of us could take it Jake. I don't think we have to worry in that department."
Just then, the final bell of the day went off and kids started to come out. Ness was one of the first few.
She had on her cute little Tinkerbell backpack (she insisted on that one because she said it reminded her of her Aunt Alice) and she was walking towards the car. She was talking to some girls that were with her. They hugged and said bye and Nessie grinned in our direction. She started to walk towards the car.
Nessie opened the door and said "Hi Momma. Hi Jakey."
"Hi Kiddo. I came to surprise you." Jake said.
"Thank you for the surprise Momma. I love it. When did you get here Jake?" Nessie asked.
By then she was buckled in her booster seat and we were heading home.
"I got here around 6:00 this morning. I was on the couch and moved into your bed after you left for school." Jake said.
"Momma, guess what our teacher Miss Rachel told us today?" Nessie said.
I grinned. "That it's the weekend and you better do your homework before play?".
Nessie giggles. "No Momma. What holiday did we just have?"
Jake obviously knew were this was heading and I just wasn't as smart as he was. He was laughing softly.
"We had Mother's Day. Oh, Father's Day." I said.
Nessie shakes her head yes. "Yes Momma. I'm so excited. We can get something extra special for Daddy because he is the best Daddy there is."
"That he is baby." I said.
"Miss Rachel said that starting Monday, we are going to be doing Father's Day projects for the next couple of weeks in art class. Then at the end of the second week, we will put them in a big portfolio and surprise Daddy with it on Father's Day. Plus, whatever else we surprise him with."
Jake pretended to put his head in his hands and moans. "You talk a mile a minute Kiddo. I can't keep up with you."
I laughed as we pulled into the driveway of our house. I put the car in park and turned the engine off. Then I unbuckled and so did Jake and Nessie.
"Ness, I am sure whatever you make for your Daddy he will love it. We can get him some nice things. Maybe the others can give us some ideas on what to get him." I told her.
Nessie nods her head and agrees with me.
"Is Nana Esme and Papa Carlisle home? I want to tell them about Father's Day." Nessie asked.
"I believe Papa Carlisle is home. I think he had the day off. Nana Esme should be home too. Maybe she can help us on what to get Daddy for Father's Day." I told Nessie.
"I think that's a good idea. Can we go to the main house soon?" Nessie asked.
"Yes baby, but let's get into the house so you can say hi to Daddy." I said.
We were all getting out of the car and Nessie turned to Jake. "I believe you owe me a few rounds of Candy Land!"
"I was hoping you would forget about that." Jake said.
"Never and no cheating!" Nessie said.
"I didn't cheat last time. You can't cheat at Candy Land." Jake said.
"Uncle Emmett is the cheating King. I'm sure he taught you some tricks." Nessie said.
Jake snorted. "He taught me no tricks because you can't cheat at Candy Land."
"Enough arguing you two. Let's go inside. I'm sure Edward wants to hear about your day." I told them.
Nessie took my hand and we went inside to find Edward with Jake right behind us.
As soon as we walked in the door, Edward looked up from his book. "How was school today Princess?"
Nessie ran over to him and jumped in his arms. I put her sweater and backpack on the chair and sat down next to them. Jake went to the fridge to find some food.
"It was good Daddy. We have a special project at school starting Monday. It has to do with art class. But, that's all I can say." Nessie said.
"Does Momma and Jake know of this surprise?" Edward asked.
"Yes, they do. But they promised not to tell." Nessie said.
Edward smirked at me and I grinned.
"What else did you learn today at school?" Edward asked.
Nessie thought for a minute.
"For history class, Miss Rachel told us some stories about the history of the Indian Reservation. Then we had to write a small report on what we learned. We are learning or two times tables in math; in music class I am learning a new song on the piano, in reading class, we are reading a series called "The Magic Tree House and the title is called Civil War on Sunday. Uncle Jasper will like that." Nessie said.
Edward and I chuckled as Nessie told us about her day. She went on saying she had fun on the playground with friends and that they played on the swings and in the sandbox and did Hopscotch.
"Can we go to Nana and Papa's house? I want to tell them about our special projects we are doing at school." Nessie said.
"Yes, we can go over their Princess. I'll call them and tell them we are on our way. Come on Jake. We are going to the Main House!" Edward shouted.
Edward quickly called Esme to make sure they were home which they were. She said that she has a snack waiting for Nessie and even Jake.
"No need to yell. I can hear every word that you guys said. Can I take my sandwich and coke with me?" Jake asked.
I rolled my eyes.
"Come on. We'll walk over so you have time to eat or you can eat when we get to the house." I said.
I grabbed Nessie's light jacket and put it on her. Then the four of us headed go the Main House.
Jake was not too far behind us eating his sandwich and drinking his Coke.
