He had walked into his place, his corner of the world to find her there poised with a cue at his pool table. He was shocked she was there but not dismayed. It had been two years now since he'd been alone with her and the knowledge that it was just him and her and no Evangelical was music to his weary soul. He had convinced himself in the time that they had been apart that he was better off without her. That she was a weight on his socially keen shoulders. That it was just a fling to stave off boredom before he got fully involved in Kappa Tau life.
But that wasn't true. She'd been his first love...his only one. He knew as soon as he had seen her at that party that she was special, that she was made for him. Sure he had felt momentary guilt that she had chosen him over Evan, but it had been her choice right?
He'd always been the social lubricant in any situation, the one that greased the wheels and allowed everyone to shuffle along nicely. Outwardly he was brash and confident, charming and saucy and she was the only one who has seen him apart from that. They were a perfect fit. He'd always been confident with the ladies but it had been with Casey that he'd lost his virginity. Scary to think he'd been eighteen, weird to know that he could have many years before, almost as if he had waited for her all that time. In the time since their parting he'd been making up for it, his reputation had baulked up the numbers significantly. He would always compare them to Casey. No one had measured up to her yet, not that anyone would ever hear that spoken.
But he was with Rebecca now. Rebecca with her luminescent eyes, brash words and brittle personality. A saucy minx for sure but it was all a facade, she could be hysterical, naughty and all kinds of sexy. She wanted someone to love her for her. He liked her, he cared for her a lot but he didn't love her. He was going to hurt her more than her stupid father could. But he wouldn't leave her. Casey may have kissed him, hinted at the possibility that they were now on the same page but he couldn't do that. So instead he would be here for Rebecca. Trying to soothe her hurts, exchange barbed words and honesties and overall push away the knowledge that he and Casey could be together. Because he was a better man now and he wouldn't desert another girl...even for the love of his life.

I have had this done for awhile but I didn't know what to do with it. Thanks for reading.
