I don't own Gallifrey, Big Finish do.

Romana ran after Leela, desperately trying to keep up with her friend. The outlands were new territory for the President, and she needed her 'bodyguard' to guide her through the unfamiliar terrain.

"Leela, please slow down. I'm not as fit as I used to be." To Romana's surprise, Leela actually stopped and turned around, watching as Romana staggered up the steep hill. When Romana finally got to the top, she looked at Leela and smiled slightly.

"You really are an incredible person you know." Leela looked at her friend in shock. Was now her chance?

"I am not incredible Romana, you are the incredible one. I..." Leela hesitated.

"What is it?"

"I wish I could see your face. I have only been blind for a few hours. but I miss it. I miss seeing your smile and your eyes. I miss the way the light of the two suns make your hair shine on this drab world. I can imagine it, but it isn't the same as seeing it with my own eyes." Romana was in shock.

"I had no idea I meant so much to you."

"Of course you do. This is probably out of place but, well, neither of us cares much for Gallifreyan traditions." Leela leaned forward, and put her hands on Romana's face. She traced her mouth and then placed a gentle kiss on Romana's lips. To her own surprise, Romana couldn't stop herself from kissing the savage back. Eventually Romana pulled away.

"I'm sorry Leela, but I can't do this." Leela, although she would never admit it, was heartbroken.

"Why is it because I am a stupid Human? Is it because I am blind?"

"No, of course not!" Romana sounded too horrified for it to be a lie.

"Then why?"

"Because I can't trust myself to love anyone. I want to, but if we were in a relationship, then I would never be able to respect you the way I would want to. I really am truly sorry."

"I do not care! At least we would be together! Please." For the first time, Leela sounded desperate. Romana sighed.

"When the war is over, then we shall be together. But right now we need to focus on stopping Pandora. Is that ok with you?" Leela thought for a moment.

"Yes, that is fine. Now come, we must move if we want to reach the Academy by nightfall." She suddenly turned around and started walking, with Romana walking next to her.

"Leela, just so you know, I really do love you."

"As I love you Romana."
