Hi guys! I'm back with a story that could possibly turn into a multi-chap, but I'm not hundred percent sure yet. Let's just see how this one goes first before I make up my mind.
Elizabeth lay in bed wide awake. It was long after midnight, but somehow her mind wouldn't stop racing. She was anxiously waiting for her husband to return from his deployment. Elizabeth was right out of college when she and Henry got married and shortly thereafter, he went into combat as a fighter pilot. He was assigned to the 3rd Marine Air Wing out of Marine Air Station Miramar, where he flew F-18 Hornets in Desert Storm. She had talked to Henry on the phone every now and then, but due to his location they had tried to keep the conversation light and fun, but still, she was bad in hiding her worry. And on top of being worried sick about him all the time, she hardly ever saw him for more than a week at a time. Ten weeks ago, Henry had surprised her back home with a short visit only staying for three days, but they spend every minute of it with each other. But things were gonna change from now on. Henry was not only coming home, but he was going to be discharged after serving these past few years. That's why Elizabeth was not only anxious but also nervous, almost terrified to see him. Considering they had barely spend time together over these past few years since their wedding, they still considered themselves newly weds. So now, that her husband was coming home, they could finally start their life together as a family.
Elizabeth closed her eyes, but she still couldn't relax. Her heart was beating faster than usual making her think that her chest was going to explode. Her breathing was rapid and she could feel sweat forming on her forehead. "Okay Elizabeth, calm down. Everything is gonna be fine", she told herself trying to calm down. She knew she was being silly; there was no reason to freak out. Her husband was coming home and she should be over the moon excited and filled with gratitude. Not to get her wrong, Elizabeth was happy that he was coming home, but she also knew she couldn't hide her secret from him anymore and that send her into full panic mode. When they had only talked over the phone these past couple of weeks, she enjoyed hearing his voice and feeling his presence at the other end of the line, but every time they had ended the call and hung up, she also felt an immense feeling of guilt wash over her, because she again hadn't told him what was really going on in her life. She sighed at the memory of their last conversation when Henry had told her he was coming home for good. "Stop worrying, Elizabeth. You love him, he loves you and he won't be mad at you", she tried to convince herself and that were her last thoughts before she finally fell into a light slumber.
A couple of hours later, she was woken up by her alarm early in the morning. Thankfully, it was a Saturday so she could pick up Henry from the airport without taking a day off. She quickly went to shower and applied light make-up in addition to her moisturizer. Blow-drying her hair, she decided to help out a little with the curler before getting dressed in a navy summer dress that was Henry's favorite. Checking her appearance in the mirror, she applied some lip balm before grabbing her back and leaving the house. After graduating from college and getting married, Elizabeth and Henry moved into an apartment closer to Washington where Elizabeth got recruited for the CIA. The apartment was so much nicer than their apartment at UVA and Elizabeth liked living there even though it got a little lonely without Henry sharing it with her. Nevertheless, Elizabeth loved her work and had made some friends for life.
Driving to the airport, she couldn't ignore the butterflies in her stomach and her heart pounding in her chest. Going faster than the speed limit, she had to force herself to slow down even though she couldn't wait to see her husband. All her worries forgotten for the moment, she just wanted to feel his strong arms around her and his lips on her. It felt like an eternity since the last time she's been in his arms. Leaving the car in the parking lot, she walked towards the arrival hall and waited for his plane to arrive. Shifting her weight from one foot to the other, everyone around her could see that she was nervous, but by now she didn't even try to hide it anymore. Five more minutes, and he was going to be back in her arms.
