Clary sat in the New York Institute, in a window seat, as the sun rose across the skyline. Her back lain against the wall to Jace's room, her sketchpad was on her lap, and her pencils were beside her. Jace was in his room taking a shower.
They had just gotten back from a patrol in Brooklyn with Alec, Izzy, and the looking-to-ascend Simon. No demons or rogue downworlders were encountered and it mostly just consisted of walking around all night and answering Simon's rather funny questions about being a shadowhunter.
Clary hadn't really drawn much since they had gotten back from Edom, since after her mother's and Luke's wedding. She missed it; missed the feel of the pencil in her fingers, the paper on her hand, and the graphite on the side of her palm.
She thought back to what had recently happened and her eyes started to moisten. She would draw that, then, she decided. So put her pencil to the paper.
First, she started with a tiny girl with red hair and blue eyes that wore a green dress. Clary could manage to draw her, Valentina as she was called in the dream, but once she got to the Jonathan with green eyes standing next to her, she started to cry harder. She pulled over a new sheet of paper and started to draw again.
This time, she drew Simon and Asmodeus and his forgetting all the Shadow World, forgetting Clary and Izzy and everyone. She started sobbing soundlessly. Her sketchpad fell to the ground as she slumped to the seat.
She had to let go of this. Jonathan was gone. She had never liked him for what he was and she had already mourned him for what he wasn't. She had Simon back, too. She put pencil to paper again on a clean sheet. She started to draw as Jace came out of his room and sat next to her. "Do you want to get some breakfast?" said Jace.
"Of course, just let me finish."
She finished her drawing and set her sketchpad down as Jace got up. He pulled her up and they went to the Hummingbird Diner to eat.
By the window sat a drawing of Tessa with blue flower clips in her hair and a shawl around her shoulders. She wasn't with Jem, but instead a boy with broad shoulders, raven-black hair, and eyes the shade of Tessa's clips. They were on steps in front of a building as snow fell and a party went on inside of the building.
Thanks for reading! Review please. More IAG after the New Year (I'm a horrible person, I know.) Merry Channuza and Happy New Year!
