FILE 1: RESORT HOUSE TERROR 1

It was finally the last day of school which the students have been waiting for. For the day marks the start of summer vacation. In a certain brunette's class, the room is buzzing already with excitement. This in turn made it difficult for the home room teacher to get the class' attention.

The teacher gave out a long sigh while shaking her head, "Oh alright. I'll stop the discussion since none of you are even listening to me, so it would be just a waste of time to continue with the..."

She hadn't even finished her sentence, when everyone started cheering in happiness. She raised her hands up to placate the class and with firmness in her voice said, "But just because we are no longer going to continue the discussion does not mean that you're already free to do what you want. I am giving this as an assignment which would require a written report. It also has to be properly made and not just something halfheartedly written just for compliance.

At the mention of this, the students groaned. "Stop complaining, you've got a long vacation ahead of you and I'm sure you can sacrifice a short amount of time to finish this. If you do not submit this or if I see that it is not up to par I will give you a failing mark. Moreover, I will make this as one of your final requirements to be submitted for your clearance in order to graduate."

From there, she began to give them a lecture on how they are already seniors and should start taking their responsibilities more seriously and for them to focus more on their studies rather than unnecessary things. Considering that they would already be graduating in a few months' time and would either go to a University or start looking for work. Though she doesn't realize and just kept on talking, that everything she was saying just fell on deaf ears, since the bell began to ring. The bell was not only signaling that class was over for the day but it also represents the start of summer vacation.

"Ugh, yeah right, its summer vacation but all the teachers are piling us up with loads of homework." Mai started to complain as she walked along with both of her friends, Michiru and Keiko, as they headed out of the school building.

Keiko laughed and with a teasing note said, "Oh come on Mai-chan, we all know you will already be finished with all our requirements before the week is even over."

Mai chuckled, "Yeah you're right." Mai said while thinkingthat she nearly forgot the fact that it would be the last summer vacation she would have as a high school student.

Mai was jostled out of her thoughts by Michiru placing her hands on Mai's shoulder. "Hey, are you alright? I've been trying to get your attention for a while now and you weren't responding." She asked Mai with a worried look on her face.

Mai answered with a smile on her face, "I'm alright, sorry for spacing out on you. I was just lost in my thoughts. So, what were you saying just now?"

"Oh right!" Michiru exclaimed, while clapping her hands as she remembered what she was supposed to say to Mai. "I was wondering if you can come with us to the beach tomorrow and stay there for two to three days." Michiru asked her.

But before Mai could answer, Keiko butted in. "Yeah it's a great idea, so are you coming? It's going to be fun." She asked excitedly.

Mai looked at both of her friends and said with a downcast look, "I don't know. I still need to go to work and I'm not even sure if Naru would allow me to take a leave for a day much more for three days."

"Can't you ask if you can take a couple of days leave from work? It would be just for three days and not any longer?" Keiko pleaded.

"Yeah it wouldn't be the same if you weren't there." Michiru added with a hopeful expression on her face.

Mai sighed, "Alright, I'll try to ask Naru if I can take a three day leave from work. I'll just call you later and tell you the outcome but I'm not making any promises." Mai said to the both of them.

Michiru was about to say something else, when they heard a car honk at them. The three turned around and saw a woman, who has light brown hair reaching towards the middle of her back and had emerald green eyes, waving at them.

-oOo-

As for the identity of the woman, she is actually Lilianne Smith though she doesn't go by her English name and rather go by the name Yuri. She decided to use the name Yuri while staying in Japan, since people were having difficulties in saying her name. She chose the name Yuri because it is the Japanese for Lily. As to why she is in Japan and how she knew Mai and her friends, she is actually Mai's guardian. Her duties are the same with Lin's, which includes observing and training Mai with her abilities.

The whole reason for why Mai needed a guardian was because of an occurrence, during a case they've taken two months after Lin and Naru returned from England. When Mai had an out of body experience she had a difficulty in returning back to her body, which in part was caused by her lack of training. It was a good thing that Lin's shiki were able to sense her, if not; there had been a possibility of her dying. Her spirit could only stay out of her body for a short period of time, since she didn't have anyone to anchor her spirit to her physical body. Normally a spirit guide would act as an anchor but she currently doesn't have one, which is quite dangerous for someone who walks through the astral plane.

As for the reason why Mai doesn't have a spirit guide, it is because she hasn't created a bond yet with a spirit who can guide her whenever she has visions or have any out of body experiences. Gene, on the other hand, was never her spirit guide to begin with. He only became Mai's spirit guide by accident; it was because during that time he was trying to contact Naru through their bond but to no avail but, the next thing he knew, he was attached to Mai who was near Naru. Gene's theory was that in some way his and Mai's abilities must have clashed in a way or that they had the same wave length as astral walkers.

With that being said, Mai would be facing a number of risks as her abilities remain untrained and without any help from her spirit guide. She could end up being exorcised by the rest of the team or her body gets possessed, which names a few of the risks with the worst one being death.

After what happened in the case, Naru, not wanting to risk Mai's safety, made a decision to contact his parents and asked if they could send someone who can help train Mai. Even though Lin could train her, he still had a responsibility of watching over Naru. It would be too strenuous for him to watch over Naru and Mai, considering that Naru can lose control of his abilities at any given moment of time, while Mai's abilities are quite erratic with her being untrained, and lastly both Mai and Naru tend to get into trouble when they're together. Because of these circumstances, Yuri was chosen to be sent to help Mai, since she was both a medium and a clairvoyant. She already has some understanding of some of Mai's abilities and would be able to train her more efficiently than Lin.

Gene on the other hand, despite his body being found, hadn't crossed over yet. With him not being able to become Mai's spirit guide, he became SPR's resident ghost and would normally help them during cases. If questioned why he hasn't crossed over yet, his answer would be due to his and Naru's bond as twins, which makes the only way for him to move on and finally rest would be through Naru's death. Everyone thought that it was quite overkill to take Naru's life just to have Gene's spirit be finally put to rest, so he is currently hanging around the office or wherever the team would be in for cases. He is currently able to materialize out in the open, with the team being the only ones to see him. Though he makes it a habit to annoy Naru, to the others amusement.

"Hey, Yuri", the three girls greeted her with smiles on their faces.

"Hey girls, how are you all doing?" she asked them.

They answered her and started chatting with her, telling her stories of how their day went and some of the things that happened in school.

Yuri then looked at her watch and saw the time, "As much I hate to interrupt. I think it would be best if Mai and I head to the office before Nolly gets angry." She said with a roll of her eyes. They all laughed at her nickname for Naru and they began to say their goodbyes to each other.

As Mai sat in the passenger seat of Yuri's car, Michiru said to her, "I hope you can come tomorrow Mai."

"Yeah, call us if you're going to come tomorrow", Keiko added.

Mai nodded her head and she waved at them. Yuri then begun to drive towards SPR's office. She then looked at Mai and asked, "What did Michiru mean a while ago?"

"Oh, they wanted to go to the beach for three days but since I have work; I said I might not be able to go unless Naru allows me to." She said with a frown on her face.

"Come on, what's with that face. Just go and ask Naru and if he says no just tell me and I'll go and irritate, ermm, I mean speak with him. Or if you don't want that then we still have the option of sending Gene to him." She said with a wink at Mai. The both of them laughed at that. Even if it has already become a normal occurrence, it never seizes to amuse them how Gene is able to push Naru's buttons. The ride to the office was filled with chatter and laughter.

-oOo-

They finally reached the office and the moment they entered Mai heard Naru yell, "Mai tea!"

"Alright," she answered back and headed towards the kitchen to make tea and while doing so, she started grumbling under her breath. "Idiot scientist, tea addict, egotistical, narcissist jerk."

She didn't realize that the very person she was grumbling about was just right behind her "What did you just say Mai?" said person asked.

"Eep! Naru, you startled me, what are you doing there anyway?" Mai asked with her hands on her chest trying to slow her breathing.

Naru just raised his eyebrow, "Am I not allowed to come in here? As far as I remember this place is not off limits. Most importantly what were you saying, just a while ago?" he asked.

"No-no-thing, I didn't say anything. I was just talking to myself." Mai stuttered nervously, hoping that Naru didn't hear her.

"Well hurry up then and finish the tea." Naru said commandingly. He then turned and started making his way out of the kitchen, when Mai called his name.

"Umm, Naru", Mai said. "Ummm, well", she started fidgeting and had a difficulty asking Naru.

Naru just raised his brow and asked, "What is it Mai, I don't have all day."

"CanItakeathreedayleave?" she asked quickly.

"What did you just say Mai, as far as I remember I do not speak gibberish", Naru said with a jibe at her.

Mai glared at him and said slowly, "Can I take a three day leave?"

Naru just stared at her and said, "Why should I give you a three day leave? As far as I remember you still have a lot of files to finish, so what made you think that I would even give you a day off."

"Please, please Naru can I have a three day leave, I promise I'll make it up to you." Mai said with a pleading look on her face,

Naru looked at Mai and sighed, "Fine you can have a three day leave, but you'll have to work overtime the following days."

He wasn't even finished saying everything, when a brown blur latched on to him and hugged him tightly and kissed him on the cheek. "Thank you, thank you, I promise I'll make it up to you." Mai exclaimed excitedly without even realizing what she had just done. She then left the kitchen with a skin in her step and went to call Michiru and Keiko, leaving a dumbstruck Naru in the kitchen. While this was happening, some members of the team began making plans on how they will get Mai and Naru to admit their feelings to each other.

As for Mai, she was thinking about what she would do during her three day vacation. Mai chattered with Michiru and Keiko without a care in the world. Though would those three days really be stress free, after all, we are talking about SPR's resident danger magnet.

As for a certain narcissist, let's just say if Mai saw him she wouldn't be able to stop laughing. Because lo and behold, Naru was standing in the middle of the room like a statue with Gene trying to snap him out and Yuri taking pictures of him to be used for black mail.
