AN: So this is my first Kalex fanfiction. It will be a series of one shots all in the same universe, based off of song lyrics. Something will be like show but most of it will be AU. Kara is still an alien and still fosters sisters with Alex. I know there will be mistakes, and I will try to go back and fix them.
Loving you was sunshine, safe and sound
A steady place to let down my defenses
For as long as Kara has been on earth she's been in love with Alex. From the moment their eyes met something sparked inside her. Even when Alex was cold and mean, and just plain ignored her, Kara loved her more than words could describe. For so long the blonde wanted to tell her foster sister how she felt but she quickly learned that being sisters was something completely different here on earth. On Krypton things were a bit different, well very different. On Krypton family wasn't actually related through blood. Babies born through a birthing pod rather than in a mothers womb. This meant that the babies with better genetics often went to the higher ups, the more noble families. You could fall in love with your sister or brother because incest just wasn't thing. You never knew weather you and your family shared any real blood and you probably didn't, and you wouldn't have sex to have a baby. Here though even though Kara and Alex shared no blood, them being together would still be considered wrong. Something Kara learned early. In the beginning she didn't think she had to hide her attraction for Alex. When she confided in Eliza, told her that Alex would be the perfect mate for her, that she felt something deep for the brunette, Eliza shut it down right then and there. Telling the little alien that sisters were not to feel that way about each other and that she should never tell Alex or anyone of those feelings, that they'd go away with time. She made Kara promise to never say anything.
They didn't go away though. As time went on Kara only found herself falling more and more in love with her foster sister. Everything Alex did enchanted her. She felt a need to always be by Alex, to protect and cherish the girl. On this foreign planet Alex became her home, a place she could completely and utterly be herself. She could pig out and use her powers, she could tell stories of her home and just be who she really is, Kara Zor-El. Alex was everything to her. The more time that passed the closer the sisters got. Kara had to reassure Eliza repeatedly that they were nothing more than sisters, and every time Kara lied it broke her heart more and more. When she'd lay alone at night, after another day of completely shutting down her feelings, she'd cry. Alex was everything to Kara. She was her sun, a place she felt truly safe.
Kara had finally stopped crying as she tossed and turn in her bed. Today was especially hard for her. She spent her whole day with Alex, cuddled up on the couch watch random things on Netflix. It was a rare that both girls were off from work and they took the advantaged to do nothing but be with each other. Kara knew she should distance herself from Alex, but found it completely impossible. The entire day all Kara wanted to do was kiss the girl she's been in love with for over a decade, but she stopped herself somehow. Instead offering a shy smile. Days like today killed Kara on the inside, but she couldn't pass up the chance to just be with Alex alone. So she endured the pain because Alex meant more to her anything she'd ever known.
She got up wiping away her tears and made her way to her studio. She used her Key and unlocked the door. She regretted coming in here. Everywhere, scattered, were paintings of Alex. It seemed all Kara wanted to paint was the girl she's hopelessly in love with. Which is why she never let anyone in her studio, not even Alex, no matter how many times her sister asked. Lately the studio seemed to haunt her, Alex's eyes followed her as she moved around the studio, getting ready to paint yet another picture of Alex. She took one last glance around the room, seeing Alex in all types of different settings. Her smiling, her on Krypton, her and Kara together in a way they never would be. Kara got to painting. A beautiful painting on Alex and Kara in a field, forehead to forehead, smiling.
She didn't remember when she fell asleep but she did. In the middle of her studio. A knock at her door had woken her up and Kara quickly went to answer it. Forgetting to close and lock the door. Still half asleep she wasn't completely aware of what she was doing. She opened her front door to a smiling Lucy Lane who entered without question. Lucy was among the small group of people who knew where Kara was really from. Kara rubbed her eyes and watched Lucy enter without a care.
"Did I wake you?" Lucy asked and Kara just nodded "Sorry, I'm just here to pick something for Alex. She's already at work and asked if I could pick it up on my way in." Kara nodded again, it was probably Alex's FBI badge. Lucy gave Kara a thumbs up before making her way to Kara's bed room.
Lucy stopped when she noticed Kara's other door was open. Everyone wondered what Kara kept in that room. Seeing as it was locked, no knew it contents. Curiosity won and Lucy made her way inside. She didn't know what she expected would be in here, but when she saw, she was only slightly surprised. Lucy always saw the way Kara looked at Alex, like the girl was the sun itself. Now Lucy had no doubts about Kara's feelings toward Alex. Lucy could hear Kara calling from the kitchen, asking if she found what she was looking for. Lucy was too busy studying each painting, in awe of the way Kara viewed Alex and of how good Kara's talents are. She wished someone would look at her the way Kara did Alex.
"What the hell, you're not suppose to be in here" Kara half yelled grabbing Lucy and taking her out of the studio. She slammed the door and locked. Lucy was surprised the thing didn't break. Kara looked at her angrily but walked away. She came back with Alex's FBI badge in hand and shoved into Lucy's chest. The girl grunted from the force and took a step back. "If you ever tell anyone about what you saw, I will break you" Lucy shivered a bit. She had never seen Kara so mad. The bubbly blonde never threatened anyone but Lucy could tell by the look in Kara eyes, she was serious. Kara would break her, and easily too. "Leave!" Kara yelled and Lucy did without a second thought.
Kara sighed and slid down the door, her face in her hands as she cried. No one was suppose see that room ever, and Lucy would start to wonder. She knew the lawyer was the curious type. She just hoped Lucy wouldn't tell anyone, especially Alex. Alex was her safe space, her home and she would rather have Alex in her life as a sister rather nothing at all. Kara tried to shake off those feelings as she got up. She need to get ready for work and hopefully it would distract her, but more likely it wouldn't.
