Maureen stood staring at the words Mark had written on the wall in his own blood. He was gone now, just like everyone else. Memories of the good times they had in this loft flooded her head. Giving Joanne's hand a squeeze, she left her side and went over to Mark's camera. She touched it, it was cold. The heat of it use died with its owner. As if in a trace she went over and started putting the projector together.
"Maureen, what are you doing? " Joanne asked not moving from her spot.
"I...I want to see what he said." Maureen replied.
"That's tampering with evidence...Look baby, Marks dead and that's bad enough. What he said may make it worse. We don't need it."
"I don't care, I want to know what he said." Maureen repeated as she flipped the projector on the watch the final film of a great artist.
In all the days he had to do it had to be Christmas Eve. Christmas would never be the same. He blamed them for abandoning him and he said he hated them. Those words hurt them, stabbed them like knifes. Maybe they should have never left and been there more instead of trying to run from the pains they had suffered. He was right, their family died with Angel them even more with Collins. He was hurting worse then what they knew and Maureen felt a sense of guilt. Standing Maureen went to the window and threw it open. She then turned to Joanne.
"Pookie, I've had enough. We lost Angel, then Collins, Then Mimi and Roger, Benny in a car crash and now Mark. We're all alone. I want to end this now. I want to be where I belong, with my friends.
"Your crazy, ending you life like this...you have so much...you have me." Joanne said on the verge of tears.
"Pookie...Joanne...I love you, I do. But theirs this void that I can't seem to fill and I realized its our lost friends. Losing Angel was bad enough, but as the rest of them left us it hurt worse and worse each time. This is the jump over the moon that I am willing to take to be free...one leap of faith Joanne, that's all it takes, one leap of faith. " Maureen said not backing from the window.
"Maureen...please you don't want to do this." Joanne pleaded as she watched her lover make her way out onto the fire escape.
Maureen turned to Joanne smiling as she held out her hand.
"I'm doing this with or without you. Take me or leave me baby, take me or leave me."
Joanne hesitated for a moment. She had lots of things to live for including family and her job. But she loved Maureen and if she left then she would be all alone. Angel's drumming had become but a faint memory, Collins' heart had expired, Mimi's candle went out, Roger's guitar had stuck its last chord and Mark's camera had filmed it's last documentary. Was this it for her, would Maureen jump over the moon and had she won her last case. She didn't want this, she wanted eternal happiness and if that met death then she would gladly take that leap by Maureen's side. Taking a deep breath she stumbled to the fire escape grabbing Maureen's hand.
"Your still crazy, but Maureen I love you too." Joanne said sharing on last kiss with her love.
"Remember, one leap of faith." Maureen told her as they looked to the ground below.
"One leap of faith." They chimed over and over.
With one more glance at each other, they took that one leap of faith over the moon to join their friends once again at the gates of heaven. One song broke out in heaven that day amongst the friends.
"Viva la vie Boheme"
