Five Asterisks

Elena's always asserting she's Zick's best friend, and Zick found a way to put her to the test.

Disclaimer: Be thankful I don't own Monster Allergy or it will be terribly cheesy and suspenseful like the rest of my fanfictions.

"So, what is your password anyway?"

Zick looked at her. He put down his book and walked over to where she sat, in front of his desktop. "Make a guess."

Elena set her hands on the keyboard and made an impatient groan. "Just tell me, I won't let anyone know! You can trust me, right? I'm your best friend!"

"Exactly. You always say so, but can you prove it?"

"This is not the time, Zick! All I'll do is to download the file from your email, print it in an internet shop and we'll be done!"

"So, do it."

"How can I? I obviously have no clue what your password is!"

"It's no secret, really. You saw me type it once already," Zick offered, but she wasn't satisfied. "You know the Tamer's Manual from cover to cover but you don't know how to get into my email."

"Tell me again why I have to print it!" demanded Elena.

"Well, I don't have a printer here. But I did the research like you asked, so it's up to you now to edit your ideas into it and have it printed," he answered, and went back to reading his book.

Elena crossed her arms. "It's stupid to have a computer and no printer! I'm personally buying you one when I get my Christmas money."

"I saved it in my email because I forgot my flash drive when I researched in the library. And you know how viruses spread on the internet."

"But you could have just emailed it to me, you know! Come on, won't you give me a little hint at least?" she pleaded.

He observed her expression and chuckled. "Oh fine. It's five asterisks."

Elena unplugged her flash drive abruptly. "Of course it's five asterisks! We can't see the letters! How very helpful of you! Looks like I'll have to do some research of my own, then, if you don't want to help me!" she yelled, adding as much sarcasm as she could muster. And she collected her things and left in a storm.

Zick allowed himself to laugh out loud. He got up and entered the string 'five asterisks' in the password field.

Elena found the nearest internet shop and opened a browser. The address bar was quickly filled with the email server's address. She keyed in his email from memory. She paused. Five asterisks, five asterisks. What could those five characters stand for? There was this nagging feeling in her chest that slowly moved her hands over the keyboard to type 'Elena'. Nervously, she pressed the Enter button and waited for the page to load.

"Sorry, the password you gave is incorrect."
